An iPod Car Adapter Makes The Most Of Your iPod

There is no question that the most popular portable music player on the market is the iPod. With its small size, large memory, and digital sound, iPods allow you to bring a massive music library with you wherever you go, and it all fits in the palm of your hand.

iPods are becoming increasingly ubiquitous as more and more consumers eschew compact disks in favor of the convenience, portability, and performance of these small wonders. However, iPods are not perfect and if they have a shortcoming it is most obvious when you would like to use your iPod in the car, unless, of course, you have purchased an iPod car adapter.

While some new cars are equipped with iPod docking stations, it is a rare feature that was not available until very recently. For the vast majority of drivers their car stereo is still designed to accommodate compact disks, which up until recently were the music medium of choice. Because an iPod can store hundreds of music titles its advantages over compact disks are obvious, and iPod owners naturally want to utilize this while driving in their automobiles, and they need an iPod car adapter to do that.

There are several types of iPod car adapters on the market. The most basic model would be for use in cars that still have an analog cassette player. For those automobiles, a cassette adapter can be plugged into the headphone jack of the iPod, and the cassette can be inserted into the car stereo. However, the sound quality of this option is not ideal, and most late model cars have CD players instead of cassette players.

If your car has a compact disc player, then a cassette iPod car adapter is obviously not an option. The Neo iON is the latest and best iPod car adapter on the market. The iON plugs directly into your iPod and is connected through a cable that plugs directly into the CD changer port that is located on the back of your car CD player.

Installing the iON requires some degree of skill and time and those who are less mechanically inclined may opt to have it professionally installed. The iON provides a direct connection that delivers the highest quality digital sound, but perhaps the most enticing feature is the way your iON and iPod interface with your car stereo system. Once attached to the iON, you no longer have to fumble with the buttons on your iPod while driving. Instead you can change musical tracks by using the existing buttons on your car stereo.

Installing an iON in your automobile has obvious advantages, but those advantages come at a cost. The iON is not portable, it becomes part of your car, so if you own several cars you would need to install an iON in each if you want to bring your iPod with you wherever you go. Further, if your car stereo does not have a CD changer port then an iON would not be compatible with your car. If those scenarios describe you, then an iPod car adapter with a universal FM modulator is what you need. A FM modulator will allow you to broadcast your iPod through one of several FM frequencies, and you can tune in your iPod on your car radio.

Another desirable feature of an iPod car adapter, such as the iON and the FM modulator, is that they provide a power source for your iPod so you do not have to worry about charging your iPod’s battery; it happens automatically. An iPod car adapter gives you the ability to listen to your entire music library for as long as you want, and as far as you drive.

The iPod Generations

The original iPod (mp3 mp4 player) introduced on 23 October 2001 marked the first iPod generation, and the latest iPod introduced on 12 October 2005 marked the fifth iPod generation, which was subsequently revised with a revision iPod model on September 2006, often referred to as generation 5.5. Note that the generations are referred with reference to the model name and not with reference to the date of release.

For a better understanding about iPod generations, check the following:

On October 23, 2001, the first generation of iPod was released. The model name was iPod and had the storage capacity of 5 to 10 gb. It used FireWire connection to computers and it had a mechanical scroll wheel.

On July 17, 2002, the second generation of iPod was released. It had the storage capacity of 10, 20 gb. It used FireWire connection to computers and it had a touch-sensitive wheel. The Hold switch was revised. The FireWire port had a cover.

On April 28, 2003, the third generation of iPod was released. It had the storage capacity of 10, 15, 20, 30, 40 gb. It used FireWire connection to computers (USB for syncing only), and it had a central row of touch sensitive buttons. New backlit screen was introduced. Dock connector port was introduced.

On January 6, 2004, the first generation of iPod mini was released. It had the storage capacity of 4 gb. It used FireWire or USB connection to computers, and it introduced the “Click Wheel”, which was later adopted by the fourth generation iPod. It was available in 5 colors.

On July 19, 2004, the fourth generation of iPod was released. It had the storage capacity of 20, 30, 40, 60 gb. It used FireWire or USB connection to computers, and buttons were integrated to form “Click Wheel”. The monochrome model was replaced in June 2005 by the color display with photo viewer, which was introduced in October 2004.

On January 11, 2005, the first generation of iPod shuffle was released. It had the storage capacity of 512 mb, 1gb. It used USB connection to computers, and it had no screen, no click wheel. It used flash memory instead of hard drive storage.

On February 22, 2005, the second generation of iPod mini was released. It had the storage capacity of 4, 6 gb. It used FireWire or USB connection to computers , and it had longer battery life, and brighter color variants. Gold model discontinued. No AC adapter. The body color matched the click wheel lettering.

On September 7, 2005, the first generation of iPod nano was released. It had the storage capacity of 1, 2, 4 gb. It used USB connection to computers (FireWire for charging only), and it was the successor of iPod mini. Slimmer design, flash memory, color screen and lyrics support.

On October 12, 2005, the fifth generation of iPod was released. It had the storage capacity of 30, 60, 80 gb. It used USB connection to computers (FireWire for charging only), and it had large screen with video player and lyrics support. No AC adapter, Universal Dock, or A/V cables were included. It had black and white color variants. This model was revised in September 2006 (often called as generation 5.5) had a brighter display, a music search function, and a longer video battery life.

On September 12, 2006, the second generation of iPod shuffle was released. It had the storage capacity of 1 gb. It used USB (via dock only), and it had the aluminum case with smaller form factor. Built-in clip. Later multi-colored models were also released.

On September 12, 2006, the second generation of iPod nano was released. It had the storage capacity of 2, 4, 8 gb It used USB connection to computers (FireWire for charging only), and it had the anodized Aluminum case in 6 colors. Music search function, longer battery life, and brighter screen.

When more refinements are carried out with respect to features, size, weight and etc., a new generation is announced of the respective model. The distinguishing landmarks were the replacement of the mechanical scroll wheel by touch-sensitive click wheel, the replacement of the hard disk by the flash memory, and the replacement of the monochrome display with color displays. Earlier generations are usually discontinued in favor of newer generations. Earlier generations had bundled software compatible with Macintosh only, while later iPod (mp3 mp4 player) generations have both Macintosh and Windows compatible versions.

The Image Features of the New iPod Video

Although the dimensions of the new iPod video are smaller, the display thinner, the screen dimensions are bigger and the image quality is better. These advantages are not the only ones as the new iPod video keeps more surprises regarding the image and the screen display.

The large color screen and reduced dimensions of the video and audio device is the attractive point of the new iPod video. This aspect makes possible the explicit reading of the menu, of the options and possibilities as it has a bright, sharp text.

The screen quality of the new iPod video may be compared to the screen quality of any TV set and it may even become the winner of such a contest. Both the design of the new iPod and the video features are very well thought out and the most important aspect is that the resolution is up to 320×240.

The resolution quality is comparable to the quality of VHS video tape, being less than half that of a DVD. That is why the sunny weather, the too bright rooms are not a problem for watching the videos on the iPod video. These obstacles are great enemies of the previous handheld video devices of reduced dimensions and these do not matter anymore, especially when it is the case of the new iPod video.

The possibility of watching the favorite music video and Disney or Pixar video, the TV shows of films on the road, away from home was a matter of dreams not long time ago. And this dream is possible now due to the next step in video technology.

Besides, the new iPod video has also some amazing options with the photo album because of great quality of the images. You may also rate your photos or create slideshows with your favorite ones so that your past empty moments may be filled with great memories. This fact is also due to the eliminated common obstacles (sunshine, bright indoors or outdoors) of watching videos on other different mini video devices. Another important aspect concerning the options of the iPod video is that it provides full-size thumbnails for photos.

Besides, the new iPod video can import digital photos directly from any type of camera or card reader. During this transfer, the thumbnails of the imported images are showed on the screen of the iPod. After the mentioned transfer, you may browse the imported pictures. Unfortunately, you cannot display the transferred pictures on the TV set.

The video image of the new iPod video is surprisingly clear, bright and sharp taking into account the size of the screen. Excellent music and video on the same handheld device is more than joyful news, having great advantages and well thought features.

Although the battery longevity for watching the videos are only of 2 hours, the new video device has a great success and may be of great need for those who are very busy. This solution is ideal for spending the time on the train, bus or airplane, maybe waiting for them or simply having a break at the office. In the end, the new iPod video is a great music player with some features for playing video a little bit so that the time would pass more quickly.

The combination of excellent image and sound is a very good achievement and a tempting offer for lovers of pocket devices to be in touch with music and other aspects of the contemporary life. These aspects of the new iPod video are especially preferred by the teenagers with their crazy lifestyle. Nevertheless, some adults may also like the high quality of the image, the options for the photo album and the slideshow. These aspects make the images, favorite videos and photos being easy to share with other people.

The best combination of high quality image and high quality sound is to be found in the new iPod video. Still, the novelty is represented by the video features on a handheld device that represent a step in the video technology.

Replace Your Wedding DJ With An iPod

Whether its true or not, most everyone agrees that wedding DJs are expensive. A popular tip circulating the net is to replace your wedding DJ with an iPod and DJ your reception yourself. While this may sound like a great idea, there are some things to consider. Just as with any do-it-yourself project, you must be aware of all facets before you start.

The first most important job for a good DJ is to play music that the crowd enjoys. A simple shuffle has no way of knowing who is dancing to what. A person does need to run things, but not just any person will do. Putting your 12 year old nephew won’t do you any good. The person in charge of the music needs a large amount of music knowledge. A good DJ should have this knowledge. A good DJ should be able to identify a song based on a few bars hummed out of tune or a snippet of lyrics that are slightly incorrect. Your DJ must not have a fear of speaking in front of a crowd, and this is not as easy as it sounds. One simply has to think of all the Best men who have hemmed and hawed their way through a wedding toast with the microphone held at waist level. Also, does he/she know how to auction off a garter or any of the other traditional reception activities? If not, will the bride and groom want to do these things while they should be enjoying their guests? Oh, and just like you would give your wedding singer or officiant a tip for performing your ceremony, don’t forget a gratuity for your impromptu DJ.

Unless you’re a music collector, chances are you don’t have a music library with waltzes, polkas, old country, new country, oldies, classic rock, new rock, soft rock, hard rock, hip hop, dance, etc. And, unless you want to subject your guests to your musical tastes, you should probably buy a selection of these songs. If you’re not up on popular waltzes and polkas, or don’t know which songs are currently topping the country Top 40, search the web. $25 dollars should buy you enough music on iTunes to cover enough various musical tastes that most guests will enjoy themselves.

Another task for a good wedding DJ is one who is covered by insurance. Sure, your homeowners policy *might* cover it, but I’d hate to see your premiums next year if an accident does occur. Don’t think accidents will happen to you? Are you serving alcohol at your reception? If you’re telling yourself, “All the drunk people I know never act like fools!”, stop and think about that again. Besides, many venues require proof of insurance because they don’t want to see their premiums raised because your grandma tripped on a speaker cable and broke her hip. Searching the web for “wedding event insurance” will yield a whole crop of insurers who will give you a $1 million dollar policy for around $200.

Equipment is of course another important factor a good DJ brings to your reception. Do you know where to get speakers? Or mics? Or Mixer?? Larger cities will have rental companies that can provide these things. You can even find many such companies by searching the web for “dj equipment rental”. Most wedding sized systems rent for anywhere from $250 to $500 dollars per day. In most cases, you must provide a truck or van to transport the equipment. Now, do you know how to set these things up? If not, will the rental company give you a tutorial? Some rental companies will give you a tutorial when you pick the equipment up, but make sure to take notes, because if you have to call them later they will likely charge you for a service call. Some equipment rental companies will deliver, setup, and test their equipment as well as pick up later, but this is extra.

That being said, if you KNOW your group will interact without being prompted (or just don’t care if they interact or not), and if you’ve got a person with an encyclopedic knowledge of music that will run your iPod (instead of enjoying your reception), and you have adequate insurance to cover any accidents that occur due to your iPod setup, and you have a large enough music library to make sure everyone gets to hear the music they want, and you’re able to get your hands on adequate dance lights and speakers, and will be saving money by spending $550 to $700 then by all means use an iPod. You honestly have no need for a DJ.

If planning and organizing all this sounds like just one more hassle, you’d probably do better to hire a professional so that you can enjoy your reception and spend your first day as husband and wife doing something besides returning rental equipment. For a few dollars more you’ll get professional equipment, professional knowledge from someone who has planned and performed at hundreds of weddings, peace of mind that any glitches will be resolved quickly, no hassles about tearing down equipment when the reception is over, and no worries about getting it back before you owe another day’s worth of rental fees.

Forget The Illegal Stuff - Download Legal Free Music For Ipod Today

If you want to download music for your Ipod, the legal free music is definitely the way to go. Almost everyone I know has an Ipod, and quite a few of them spend hours looking for things on shady P2P sites, and a few of them have even gotten viruses. I’ve told them time and again about the free legal music download sites but they won’t listen. Will you?

For my guide to the best sites to download legal free music for ipod from, please visit http://www.ipodlowdown.com

The benefits of free legal music downloads-1 The main benefit of these legal download sites for your Ipod is that they are legal-you don’t have to worry about getting any scary letters from the government or record labels or whatever. That’s a big bonus in my book.

The benefits of free legal music downloads-2 Choice. When you are looking to download free legal music for Ipod, you can often get everything you need all in one place. Every song you’ve ever wanted, all under one easy to access roof. If you’ve ever downloaded from the illegal P2P sites, you’ll know how much the opposite can be true there. It’s very frustrating to have to search for all different descriptions etc in the hope that someone has uploaded the song you are looking for, especially if you don’t find it. This rarely happens with the legal sites as some of them have over 90 million files. That’s a lot of music!

The benefits of free legal music downloads-3 Speed-a lot of the trustworthy free sites will charge you an admin fee when you first join them. It’s a one off fee, and is put toward their upkeep costs for servers and customer service staff etc. This means they are able to offer download speeds that you can only dream of with most P2P sites. Once you are used to download speeds like that, downloading free music for Ipod the illegal way will seem so slow that it’s not worth bothering with.

The benefits of free legal music downloads-4 Safety. With these sites you don’t have to worry about viruses or some idiot trying to catch you out with spyware. These are professional organisations, so you can be sure that your downloads will be safe and exactly what you were looking for.

Downloading legal free music for Ipod is definitely the way to go. I’m very glad to have my memberships, and I can’t even guess how much I would spent with Itunes if I didn’t have access to all this free stuff.

iPod Nanos - A Surprising Case History

Virtually everyone has at some point seen the ads for the compact iPod nanos or knows a friend or a family member who has one of these electronic devices. The iPod Nanos were accepted very well by electronic consumers, not because they were devices that were anticipated to be rejected, but a music device that was a surprise for people who were looking into these types of players.

The iPod Nanos were meant to replace the IPod Mini as the mid-level iPod product, with additional space and features compared to the IPod Shuffle and less than the traditional iPod. The introduction of the iPod Nanos surprised the press, due to the fact that even though they were anticipating an iPod that utilized flash memory for storage purposes, no one thought that Apple would so thoroughly have the iPod Nanos replace the IPod Minis.

Even though the iPod minis were still doing well, there was no apparent reason to discontinue a successful product even with the introduction of a newer one. Regardless, the aggressive move ended up being the right one, due to the fact that people have accepted it and has even been cited for durability and quality, in spite of initial issues of the iPod Nano with scratching of the screens.

Modifications of the IPod Nanos

In the beginning, it was challenging to locate some accessories for iPod Nanos due to the fact that in order to compensate for the reduced size of the items, Apple had to get rid of the remote connector located towards the top part of models such as the IPod Minis, which the majority of accessories during that time period used.

With today's accessories, items such as remotes and FM transmitters are being manufactured that hook up with the devices through a docking port. The iPod Nanos inner functionality is different from its predecessors, as well. The most significant change inside of it was the move from a small hard drive to using flash memory for the storage of songs.

The iPod Nano was shrunk down by its designers to be about the size of a slightly more slender and a little bit longer than a credit card. This can be achieved now because flash memory is roughly about the thickness and size of a postage stamp.

Regardless of the reduced size in comparison to the IPod Mini, Apple also was able to provide a color screen that gives higher resolution because of the switch to the iPod Nano. It is because of these basic changes in overall design that made iPod Nanos more capable to allow Apple to remove its predecessor, the iPod mini, from the market.

iPod Compatibility

iPod compatibility on the original iPod was designed for use with Macintosh computers running Mac OS 9 or Mac OS X but Apple began selling a Windows-compatible iPod too on July 17, 2002. Apple released a Windows version of iTunes on October 16, 2003; previously, Windows users needed third-party software such as Musicmatch Jukebox (included with Windows iPods before the release of the Windows version of iTunes), ephPod, or XPlay to manage the music on their iPods.

iPods originally shipped formatted with Apple's native filesystem, HFS Plus (Hierarchical File System) and consequently would only work with Apple's Mac OS because Windows does not support HFS Plus. An iPod formatted with HFS Plus is able to serve as a boot disk for a Macintosh computer, allowing one to have a usable, portable operating system installed on their iPod.

With the advent of the windows-compatible iPod, Apple switched iPod's default file system to FAT32 because FAT32 is the only file system that can be used natively with both Mac OS and Windows. Fourth-generation and earlier iPods could still be made to boot a Macintosh by reformatting their hard disks with HFS Plus.

The iPodLinux project has successfully ported an ARM (Advanced RISC Machine) version of the Linux kernel to run on iPods. It currently supports first through third generation iPods, and features simple installers for Mac OS X and Windows. The Linux interface is known as "Podzilla".

The interface will run on all iPods, however the development team does not support its usage. The iPod uses standard USB and FireWire mass-storage connectivity, and therefore any system with mass-storage support can mount it and use it as an external hard drive. The iPod will also charge from any powered USB or Firewire port, regardless of software support.

The Apple iPod and The Future of Media

First of all, what actually is an Apple iPod? Well, its a digital portable media player, or MP3 player. The term iPod has become so ubiquitous that it is not really necessary to explain it. In fact sometimes iPod is used as a generic term for an MP3 player in much the same way the brand name Hoover is seen as a generic term for vacuum cleaners.

In 2001 the first Apple iPod was released. Since then there have been over 100 million sales of the iPod world wide. It is used in conjunction with iTunes software which is a kind of computerized jukebox, but also integrates with buying and downloading music. In my opinion, this is what really sets the iPod aside from other portable media players. This iTunes has really revolutionized the way music is bought. Sales of singles in the UK declined significantly until iTunes was released. Now songs can get to number 1 in the UK charts on download sales alone, before even having a single released. What this means is that bands no longer need a record deal in order to get a number one single. Look at someone like Gnarls Barclay and their single 'Crazy'. That became Number 1 in the UK singles chart through downloads alone.

Looking at the history of the iPod they have seen a lot of changes; there is now a miniature iPod Shuffle with no screen, perfect for sports people; A Classic iPod which although looks very similar in style to the original, now even plays videos, movies and games and comes with an enormous 160GB hard disk; the amazing revolutionary Apple iPhone which combines a camera, media player, phone, web access, touch screen and more into a phone; following on from the iPhone came the iPod Touch, which is in my opinion just an iPhone without the phone, and some of the other useful features like full internet access. The iPod Nano is now on its third reincarnation, being revamped each time for a fresher look and more features.

The permeation of iPods into our culture is such that now even places like hospitals (for example the Royal Glasgow Infirmary) offer podcasts as a means of providing training materials. Students can even get some lectures on a podcast.

What does the future hold for the iPod or other 'Pod' Products? Apart from the obvious of smaller, cheaper, lighter, with more memory on board, I would like to see further integration of the iPod and iTunes concept into the home, with iTunes being the centre of an entertainment hub for the home. I envisage this as being centered around a broadband connection, incorporating a wide screen Television, hi fi system, downloadable movies, TV shows on demand, along with classical TV broadcasting incorporated. I see this as leading to a more integrated approach to media and the way it is delivered to the consumer.

Is An IPod The Best mp3 Player Choice?

Apple is incredibly dominant in the mp3 player market - it has over 80% of the US market for example. Why is this?

Firstly because iPods still lead the way for music playing capabilities - they just sound great. Secondly, the iTunes is the best music management software. On top of that, the iTunes music store is the easiest to use and has the greatest choice.

And last but certainly not least iPods are just such amazingly sexy devices!

There are currently 3 iPods in the model range.

iPod The latest iPod is often called the 5G (standing for 5th generation). It is a lighter, thinner design (10 percent thinner than the fourth-generation 30GB iPod), available in white or black.

It comes with a choice of 30GB or 60GB of internal disk storage. This means you can keep about 7,000 or 15,000 songs respectively, plus up to 150 hours of video (on the 60GB iPod).

The 5G iPod has strengthened its support for photos and video with its 320 x 240-pixel, 2.5-inch QVGA color display. You can use the optional iPod A/V cable to play videos and photo slideshows with music on your TV.

You can also use the new Apple Remote with an optional iPod Universal Dock to control your music, videos and slideshows. There is of course a huge range of third party accessories with similar capabilities to the Apple ones - sometimes even better than Apple's and often at lower prices.

In summary the iPod is still better than the competition, but its video capabilities are not yet complete. For example it is slow at transferring photos directly from a camera and it is not yet a fully capable portable video player.

You cannot convert your own video content for iPod playback - iTunes gives you an unhelpful error message if you try this. To get videos ready for the iPod, Apple says you need to buy an add on called QuickTime 7 Pro, although free software to do this is now starting to appear.

iPod nano Apple's tagline for the nano is "impossibly small" and it certainly is incredibly small and light. It is currently available in 1GB, 2GB and 4GB sizes, which hold about 240, 500 and 1,000 songs respectively.

The nano has a 1.5-inch colour display, so you can view album art as you play your music, or browse up to 25,000 photos on the 4GB model.

Because it is so small and light, Apple emphasises the nano's wearability. You can easily wear it around your neck or keep it on an armband.

iPod shuffle The shuffle is the entry level iPod model and is even smaller than the iPod nano - about the size of a pack of gum and weighs less than a car key.

The shuffle doesn't have a display so its playlist control is fairly basic - play, pause, skip, repeat, hold and shuffle (random).

It is easy to hook up to a computer - just plug it directly into a USB 1.1 or 2.0 port, or use an optional Dock. You can sync a specific iTunes Playlist, or drag and drop individual songs or albums from iTunes into the iPod shuffle. The shuffle also automatically charges during syncing.

Summary Apple still holds a clear lead over other mp3 music player vendors. The iPods sets the pace in most aspects - storage, packaging and even price. There is a huge 3rd party add on market that gives the iPod owner a wide choice of accessories.

Apple has now made a strategic move into video and it looks like it will also dominate in that space.

Really, from the position it now has, Apple has to make big mistakes or just get complacent to lose its #1 market position.

Is the Apple iPod Going to Last or Burn Out Like the Apple Macintosh?

Today the Apple iPod is leading the market in the portable music player industry, having sold around 15 million iPods since they were released. But some people are now saying like the Apple Macintosh once an industry leader the iPod will also become a memory. Looking to the near future at the main competition for the Apple iPod are the new age mobile phones. Not only do they have the normal features of a mobile phone but they’re also adopting a higher standard of digital camera and a built in MP3 player. Unless Apple decides to bring the iPod into the mobile phone industry, we may see them move to the back of the shelf at ebay.

Below are an example of some already available mobile phones that incorporate the higher standard digital camera and MP3 player:

• Motorola MPx220
• Siemens SX1
• Sony Ericsson P910i
• Sony Ericsson W800i

Looking at the Sony Ericsson W800i, this mobile phone offers a 2 mega pixel digital camera with video recording capability. Also a built in MP3 player and the phone comes with a 512mb Memory Stick™ PRO Duo. This maybe only capable of holding around 150 music tracks or 10-15 full length CDs. You can upgrade the memory stick to 1GB doubling the storage capacity.

Obviously the Sony Ericsson W800i does not have the storage capacity of a 60GB iPod video, but looking at the technology trends everything is getting smaller with higher storage capacity.

Once mobile phones have a higher storage limit (60GB) they will also have the capability of playing MP4. Then your every day mobile phone will be a Phone, Camera, MP3 music player and an MP4 video player which fits in your pocket.

iPod Radio - Well Maybe

Apple recently announced the release of the iPod Radio Remote. This little accessory combines a wired remote control with a FM radio receiver. It works with the iPod nano and the most recent generation (fifth) of iPods.

The iPod Radio Remote is a convenient way for music lovers to control their iPod and add FM radio for a reasonable price point. Using the remote, you can skip tracks and adjust the volume of your iPod even when it’s in a pocket or backpack. It’s main feature - lets you and listen to FM radio stations while it displays station and song information on the iPod’s screen.

The iPod Radio Remote combines two great features in one elegant product,” Greg Joswiak, Apple’s iPod Marketing guy said recently. The iPod Radio Remote is both the best remote control and the best FM radio listening experience for iPod.” If you search the Apple iPod store online, you will also find a couple of competitors that launched similar products ahead of Apple.

But I must admit, the Apple Radio Remote is a cleaner package. If you live in the city and get good FM reception, this is a nice little add-on. If you live in the burbs and are looking for great sound - similar to the quality that you get from your iPod, then forget about the iPod Radio Remote. Why, because it is like any other small FM radio, it needs a strong signal to give you decent sound.

But don’t give up, there is quite a lot happening in the real time audio market and you will have more choices in the coming months. There were several rumors in 2005 about Apple and satellite radio for instance. "The iPod is the biggest, baddest thing around and satellite radio is this small, cool device," said Steve Mather, an analyst with Sander Morris Harris. "Put them together and it's the ultimate."

But there has been no evidence that such a dream machine is in the works. Earlier this year, Sirius Satellite Radio CEO Mel Karmazin said he had approached Steve Jobs, the chief of iPod maker Apple Computer, about a possible deal but said Jobs wasn't interested.

Sirius didn’t sit on its butt. The created their first portable device called the S50, a small, sleek device used with a docking port in your car. It is like a TiVo for radio. It automatically stores music for later listening. You can schedule recordings from both music and talk stations (with a firmware upgrade), save favorite songs, and link up to a PC to load music files. But… you can't see the song list for recorded music. The S50 is available only with a car kit and the controls are hard to use.

Not to be left out, XM recently unveiled a new satellite radio for spring ‘06. Like their initial radio, the new receiver will pick up satellite signals as you are walking around outside. No docking station is needed, which is a huge advantage over the Sirius S50. It also has 1 gigabyte of memory so that you can record 50 hours of radio play. Out doing the S50 - there are no restrictions on how or what you can record. In fact, XM has made it even easier to capture individual songs.

The new XM player also provides a "tag" feature that let’s you immediately purchase any song you hear from Napster's online store. When you reconnect the player to your computer, you can get those MP3's that you just purchased to create a mix of MP3's and radio content on the player.

XM now appears to be ahead of Sirius and Apple in the radio wars. To prove it they announced the XM Passport, a small card that can be plugged in and out of future XM enabled devices. With the passport card, you need only buy one subscription to XM radio to power a number of satellite receivers; just plug in your passport card

What Powers Your iPod - Understanding Lithium-Ion Batteries

When you purchase an iPod, what do you think about? Are you imagining what songs you’ll put on it? Do you think about all the accessories and kits that you’ll get for your iPod? Can you picture in your mind all the places you’ll take your iPod? Of course you’re thinking about all those things. Are you also thinking about lithium iPod battery that powers your device, and how it works? Probably not.

The iPod is a remarkable device that has changed how people transfer and enjoy music and information, but little is paid attention to what makes an iPod work. We know how it works, and what it can do, but what enables it to do all those cool things? The answer is a small but powerful lithium iPod mini battery.

Lithium iPod batteries are more powerful than standard nickel-cadmium batteries. Because of this, lithium batteries last longer and don’t require to be charged as regular batteries. This allows you to minimize the times you need to change your iPod battery. Now, with any form of battery – lithium ion or otherwise – you will eventually need to purchase an iPod Battery Replacement Kit, or to simply replace the iPod battery itself. After all, it won’t last forever, but it’s sure close!

A lithium ion iPod mini battery works better for two reasons:

1. Lithium is lighter than nickel
2. Lithium batteries have smart “fast-charge” technology

Let’s focus on point number one. Because lithium ion is lighter than crystal, which means that your iPod doesn’t have to work as hard to charge a light material vs. a heavy material. So, your iPod battery uses less power to fully charge up. That’s good for you, because having lithium iPod batteries gets your device charged up faster. It also saves you the expense of having to frequently purchase iPod mini battery replacement kits.

On the second point, iPod batteries are smart charging. Now, you can’t use your iPod mini battery to help study for a test! Rather, they’re smart because they can tell the charger when they’re almost full. When your iPod is charging, it charges up to 80% capacity in no time flat. Then, the iPod battery tells the charger to slow down, so the charging process goes from warp speed to snail’s pace. This ensures that the battery doesn’t overcharge, and makes certain that you’re spending your time with your music, and not spending your cash on iPod battery replacement kits.

With any battery, every time you charge it, it loses a bit of its performance and power. Over time, that battery will die, and after you give it a proper funeral, you’ll have to change it. The same is true with your iPod. Eventually, you will have to replace the iPod battery. You can either change the iPod battery itself or purchase and use an iPod mini battery replacement kit. But, because your iPod battery is a lithium-ion beast, you won’t need to worry about that for a while!

However, if you want more information on the powerful battery that keeps your music playing, head on over to www.ipodjuice.com. There’s even more information on iPod batteries, iPod battery replacement kits and other tips and techniques on how you can safely change your iPod battery so that your music stays with you forever!

How to Improve the Life of Your New iPod Battery

The original iPod battery that comes with your device will eventually lose power and die. Pretty dramatic, isn’t it? Once that happens, you’ll need to get an iPod video battery replacement kit so you can keep the music playing. In the back of your mind, though, you keep saying to yourself “how do I keep this battery as long as I can so I won’t have to change the iPod battery again?”

You can keep scratching your head in wonder, or you can continue reading, and learn how to maximize the life of your new iPod batteries.

TIP #1: Only charge your iPod battery when it needs charging. If possible, allow the battery to drain down before recharging it.

First thing to know is that iPod batteries are considered dead when they can’t hold any kind of charge for any length of time. Now, what causes the demise of an iPod battery? That’s right – charging! The more you charge the battery, the weaker it gets until it can’t do anything any more so you have to change the iPod battery.

TIP #2: Use and enjoy your iPod on a regular basis.

Don’t leave it in the charger for days on end and don’t ever use it for weeks on end. You bought the thing to use and enjoy – so use and enjoy it! This will keep the battery fresh, and save you the hassle of purchasing an iPod mini battery replacement kit too soon.

TIP #3: Don’t overcharge your iPod battery. Once it’s full, unplug it from the charger.

Some people think if you constantly have your iPod battery charging, it will increase battery time and performance. This assumption is incorrect. For further proof of this, the next time you fill up your car, keep filling even after it’s full. And when the gas is pouring out of the tank, fill it up some more. That’s basically what happens when your overcharge your iPod mini battery.

TIP #4: Use the backlight timer or only use the backlight when you need it.

A neat thing about the iPod is its backlight that allows you to see the display screen even in the dark. So why have it on during the day? To conserve your iPod battery use the backlight timer to come on only when you need it. The backlight timer, while useful, can be a huge drain on your iPod batteries.

TIP #5: Store your iPod at room temperature.

Your iPod is a delicate piece of electronic equipment. Would you then store it in a meat locker? Keep your iPod at room temperature to improve battery life. A cold iPod battery slows down the chemical reactions that occur inside the battery that make it work properly. And if your iPod mini battery is too hot, it speeds up the reactions, which drain the battery faster.

Everyone wants to avoid having to change the battery in your iPod, but it’s practically inevitable that you will need to change the battery in your Apple iPod sooner or later. For more information on how iPod batteries work, and what you can do to avoid changing them on a regular basis, just visit www.ipodjuice.com for more information.

TIP #6: Learn more about iPod batteries at ipodjuice.com.

iPod Download Tips - What You Don't Know About iPod Song Downloads

The technology behind iPod downloads is interesting. If you are an iPod user, it is not new to you that you simply cannot download those stored song files in your iPod to your computer. In short, iTunes only allow a one-way transfer of files, from the computer via iTunes to your iPod device but not vice versa. People have questioned the rational behind this somewhat inconvenient shortfall in the design of these portable digital devices. We will find out in this article how we can work around this inconvenience and also explore other cost-effective ways to download tons of songs and music videos for pennies.

No, it is not because there is a design flaw but rather the design intention to ward off attempts of piracy, ie indiscriminate duplication of music files to be sold or shared. It may sound harsh to say that even sharing song files with friends could be illegal, but it is true that you may be in danger of infringing into copyright laws. The copyright laws are put in place to govern and protect the intellectual properties of their creators, the musicians, etc so that it remains profitable for them to run their music business. Without that, the music industry slowly wanes and dies a natural death. As a consumer, or music lover, you obviously wont want that to happen right

However, not being able to download iPod songs from iPod to computer meant that we cannot do a backup of our song collection. This can be a nasty experience if our computer crashes or when our iPods are faulty. There is a need for easy transfer of song files between the iPod device and any computer such that retrieval would not be so painful. The piracy-proof functionality of the iPod device to prevent transfers of songs to a computer ended up becoming a handicap for owners who genuinely just want to do proper backups.

Software developers saw this shortfall coming and have already designed some applications to work around this problem. iPod users can now conveniently carry out transfers from their iPods to their computers with ease, without fear of formatting problems. Heres a list of iPod-compatible software applications supported by Mac/Windows Operating System that are available for downloading. Free trials are available for testing.

1. iPod Music Liberator

2. iPodRip

3. PodUtil

4. iPod Access

With the above software, you can rest at ease, knowing that your private iPod downloads of song and music collection is safe even when your iPod or computer is down. I am sure you have heard of horrific stories where folks who have painstakingly built up a huge iPod music collection only to see them wiped out with a technical glitch. Its not a matter of effort only but the amount of money that has been invested into the iPod downloads.

Fortunately, there is now a better way to download iPod songs, music and music videos. In the past year, other than iTunes, many new players have entered into the market changing the business model of paid iPod downloads. Instead of charging per iPod download of song or music video, these membership sites are offering life-time membership for pennies. Considering the vast library of millions of iPod downloads they offer which range from the latest music to movies and TV shows, it is proving to be a more worthwhile investment for iPod users. Learn more about how you can access to unlimited iPod downloads of music and other media files at my iPod blog.

Apple iPod Shuffle - Music, In a More Refined Way

For the last five years, Apple has unequivocally dominated the world of hard disk based audio gadgets. Although, the competition has become more stiff these days, but Apple continues to enjoy a dedicated following. And, at the same time, the sudden surge of music phones have also pushed the limit for such manufacturers, as now they are adding some additional music features to retain their dedicated customers. Consequently, their prices have also gone down. So, now you can afford to buy an Apple ipod with a reasonable price. The newest kid on the block is the Apple iPod Shuffle, which comes equipped with an improved hard disk and now, you can store a far greater amount of music, as compared to earlier Apple iPods.

The Apple iPod shuffle comes with two capacities with 1GB and 512MB options. Since Apple has already released some of the most magnificent iPods, we can expect something special from this newest edition. First of all, the Apple ipod shuffle is the second generation iPod and on the other hand, it is also acclaimed as the smallest iPod ever designed. Hence, it is quite obvious that this iPod has really lost a lot of fat to get that sleek look and there is a certain ommission of any real display. There is only a small tri-colour led, which indicates the basic functionalities to an user. Currently, this iPod is available in five enticing colours –choose your favourite one to enter the ecstatic world of music.

As such lot has been said about this iPod, but does it really serve the basic purpose, as being the cheapest, simplest and smallest iPod to date. So, there are some interesting aspects, which should be considered to review the appropriate usefulness of this music device

Compatible size:

When you take a first look at the new Apple iPod shuffle, you would find it like another small media player. Although, its overall dimensions are slightly larger than the original nano's screen. On the other hand, its control scheme does look like other iPods, as it comes with similar features like a ''scroll wheel'', which does not offer any scrolling functionality. Thus, you can easily press down on the top and bottom of its wheel to increase or decrease the volume –whenever you want. There are two toggle switches on the bottom of this iPod. One is used as a simple on/off switch, while the another one is a ''shuffle switch'', which randomly adjusts the song order to make things further easier for you. Well, this shuffle iPod is endowed with the latest version of Apple's highly popular earpbuds, which offer brilliant sound quality.

Improved features:

It is because of its extremely small size, the Apple ipod shuffle does not work with same docking mechanism like other iPods. Instead of that, it utilises a specifically designed USB dock, which can be easily plugged into the headphone jack.

So far, nothing significant has been done in the Apple ipod shuffle, but it does have it all to play all your music – the way you like.

At the end of this article I'll give you a small list of recommended download sites, as finding the really good ones can be quite hard seeing as smaller copy cat sites are popping up all over the place, offering far less quality for money.

The third way to get songs for your Ipod doesn't specifically require downloading, rather converting your existing cd collection to mp3 format enabling you to then put those songs onto your Ipod. You will need a certain kind of file conversion software to do this but as of the writing of this article, most of the download sites mentioned above offer this kind of conversion software as a bonus for your registration.

Such sites will often be loaded up with big flashy banner ads and you will probably have lots of smiley faces keep popping up on your screen as you are downloading. Although these types of sites will allow you to download movies for free without ever paying a fee. You will end up paying in the long run as you computer will then get hit with spyware and viruses instead. Also the download speeds are incredibly slow and it takes forever to download a file.

2. Monthly Membership Sites that say they are free

Unfortunately although they say that they are free in fact they are not. What they do is they lure you in and then you will need to pay them either a monthly membership fee or you will end up paying for every movie that you download from their site.

3. One off Lifetime Fee

This is probably the best way in which to get movies for your iPod. Such sites will ask you to pay a one off lifetime fee of around about $40. Then once you are set up you can begin down loading as many movies as you want and they are all free.

So if you are considering to download free iPod movie then look at the options above. Certainly the best option is number 3 which allows you to download all your favorite movies for free without breaking the bank or the possibility of your PC getting destroyed by some stray spyware. So why not visit a site today and start to download free iPod movies that you can enjoy no matter where you are.

Free iPod Video Downloads

The Apple iPod is without a doubt the most popular mp3 player on the market today. The latest iPod has video capabilities and there is a huge demand by consumers for free iPod video downloads.

Consumers need more video content for their iPod and they are turning to the internet to download free iPod videos. Although Apple’s itunes store offers a wide range of iPod videos for download, it is expensive and available on a pay per download basis.

There are many websites that offers free iPod video downloads. An example is channelfrederator.com. They offers free short animations that you can watch on your iPod. Another source is archive.org. They are literally thousands of free videos available. Video sharing sites such as youtube and google video also have plenty of videos.

You will probably need an iPod video converter since most of these video files are not compatible on iPod which can only play H.264 and MPEG-4 videos.

You do need to be careful as some of these sites are infested with spyware and viruses. Always scan the files when you download.

Another easier option if you want free iPod video downloads is to join a iPod download site. They are many available.

For a small fee, you can download unlimited videos for your iPod. Usually, it is just a one time charge and you can get technical support and rest assured it is free of spyware and viruses.

You do need to choose carefully as not all iPod download sites are trust worthy. Some of them do not provide support and the download speeds are notoriously slow.

However, I still highly recommend using these iPod download sites for free iPod video downloads as it is cheaper than using itunes. It is also much easier than having to search the internet for websites that have free ipod videos for download.

IPod Music Download Sites - Pros and Cons?

Are you thinking of purchasing a membership to an iPod music download site? While itunes is great and offers a wide variety of mp3 and movies, it is also very expensive since it is on a pay per download basis.

Many iPod music download sites takes advantage of this point and offers unlimited download for a one time charge. Here are the pros of iPod music download sites

1. Unlimited download – the obvious advantage is unlimited downloads for a period of time. Most music download sites offers life time membership so you only need pay once and can download forever.

2. Cost Savings – Over the long run, getting an iPod download site membership can save you more money than if you were to buy from itunes or a CD.

3. Wide variety of music – There are literally millions of songs you can legally download plus most iPod music download sites also offers other files for download such as TV shows, movies and even games.

4. Free software – Most iPod music download sites provides free software for you to convert songs and movies to iPod compatible mp3 and H.264 video. That’s means you do not need to spend more money purchasing video conversion software.

While there are many advantages to purchasing an iPod music download site membership, there are some points you need to take note.

1. Legality and Copyright Laws – Not all music download sites are legal. Some are fly by night sites that are scams. The files they are offering are illegal and you could be infringing copyright laws by downloading them.

2. Download Speed – Some iPod music download sites are notoriously slow when downloading files, probably because the owners decide to skimp on hosting. So even if there are million of mp3 and movies to download, I am sure you wouldn’t want to spend a couple of hours downloading mp3 and video.

3. Support – Some music download sites do not provide any support at all and this can be a problem if you have problems when using it.

Though there are disadvantages when buying an iPod music download site, I would still highly recommend anyone who download songs and videos often to buy one. You just need to be more careful when choosing an iPod music download site.

iPod Skins - Bringing Back The Cool

Whenever a new product is introduced to the consuming public with the almost overnight success that accompanied the introduction of the Apple iPod, it is, for awhile enough just to have that product. But when the initial novelty of iPod ownership wore off, because everybody seemed to own one, the cool cachet which accompanied IPod ownership lost a little of its dazzle as well.

And while no iPod’s owner would dream of doing with without his or her wonder toy for a single day, finding a way to replace the cool diminished by its popularity became almost as essential as getting their iPods in the first place. And Apple, seeing the problem, introduced various accessories which would allow their customers the opportunity to reintroduce the cool factor to their iPods.

iPod Skins As iPod Transformers

iPod skins have become one of the most popular devices in the iPod cool accessories universe. iPod skins, as their name suggests, are form-fitting iPod covers which transform the appearance of the standard IPod casing into the color and pattern of your choice, making your iPod different from any other in the iPod universe.

There are so many choices for custom iPod skins that no iPod owner needs to settle fro a duplicate. Custom iPod skins are available in everything from adhesive-backed stick-ons to complete faceplates.

Types Of iPod Skins

One of the most popular iPod skins is the silicon wrap, which envelops the entire iPod except for its control wheel and screen. The silicon iPod skin is a great alternative to the IPod sock and leather cases which Apple offers, because neither of them allows access to the control wheel or screen.

Another of the early iPod skins was the carbon fiber iPod package, which contained two pre-cut pieces of black carbon fiber to be attached to the front and back of the iPod with the four screws included in the kit. The carbon fiber iPod skin also contains a belt clip.

Those who would like to adorn their iPods with a pop culture look can get on of the iPod skins from Iconz, which offer images of Batman, Superman, the Simpsons, and Tweety Bird, among others. And on the other end of the iPod skins spectrum, for those who want to keep their iPods undercover in the boardroom, is the Marware CEO Classic iPod skin.

The CEO Classic iPod skin is a dual covered leather case; the top cover will cover the interior one, which allows screen and control access. The CEO Classic iPod skin will provide cover for those who do not want their fellow workers to know they are carrying an iPod, and its outer cover even has a pocket in which to store business cards.

How To Use an iPod

What would you say is the most popular question after "where can I buy iPod?" Would you believe it's: "how to use an iPod?" Although you can find enough techie guys who would start using a new iPod as if they were born with it, most people would still prefer a good iPod Manual. One that would explain how to use an iPod for "normal people".

It might be true that it is relatively easy to listen to music that is already on your iPod. But it is not always easy to manage your music: add new songs, delete songs that you don't like anymore, create playlists or changing some of the iPod's settings.

One of the problems is that the answer to the "how to use an iPod" question, starts with the answer: "iTunes".

My friend Jane got a new shiny ipod shuffle as a birthday present. It looked pretty simple to use, but boy, was she in for a surprise! She had no idea that in order to learn how to use an iPod, she would have to learn how to operate iTunes. She's not a big computer girl, and iTunes wasn't easy on her.

She actually told me once she thinks iTunes should merge all its menus under one title: "advanced".

But whether you find iTunes complicated or the iPod itself not easy to use, remember that it is not something that was meant to be. Don't get discouraged, or give up. You can learn how to use an iPod. There are easy ways to do it.

There is a bottom line. A lot of people come to the same conclusion: In order to understand how to use an iPod, they buy a recommended iPod manual. A well written, easy to understand and user friendly iPod manual can make a huge difference in how much you enjoy your new cool gadget.

Paul Park, a.k.a. iPod Guy, has helped many of his friends to conquer their difficulties with new gadgets. In his search to help out new iPod users, he had found this iPod manual to be very popular and helpful.

Download Free iPod Games

Everyone who has an iPod or iPod Nano knows that it can be quite expensive to keep iPod, since you want new songs, new movies and new games every other day. This is a disaster because of the high prices for iPod downloads, but how would that change if you knew how to download free iPod games, or songs? How much money could you save?

I have found a solution to this problem. There are certain download services which do not have pay-per-download fees, although they have a membership fee. But, this is the money saver here, since you pay a small fee of around $30 and you receive free iPod downloads. Seriously, I have saved at least $100 already and I have been a member of such a site for only a month or so.

An iPod download services give you the opportunity to download free iPod games, free movies and music. This is way better than buying games, movies or songs, since I do not pay for every download I make, just a membership fee, which is a lifetime membership.

Although, there are dozens iPod download services, but how do you pick the one that is the best at everything and the one that will keep you happy and satisfied while delivering free iPod downloads? Here are a few tips from my own experience.

First, find a reputable and legitimate iPod download service, second, read reviews and user opinions and third, make sure that it has at least a 30 day money back guarantee. You will be safe to download free iPod games that way.

The money back guarantee will also prevent you from getting scammed and it's absolutely risk free. If an iPod services has such guarantees then obviously it is not a scam. However, there are good ones and there are bad ones, so how to pick the best one at first shot?

Well, you actually can't, I've tried over six iPod services and I really like only one, which I am using currently to download free iPod games, movies and songs. If you would like to read more about it then feel free to visit my personal blog. This one has fast downloads, reliable and helpful support and amazing video tutorials to help you get started.

Earl Bennett is an iPod addict and loves to download free iPod games to his 60GB iPod. He runs a personal blog where he reviews various iPod download services.

Apple Ipod - Start A Serious Music Collection With Free Downloads

Apple.com Ipod: start downloading free songs and movies-you won't be disappointed. Everyone knows how cool Ipods are-they are THE Mp3 player to have. It seems like just about everyone in the world has an Ipod these days. The only downside to owning one is downloading songs from Itunes-it's not that great and it can be expensive! To help you get around that, I've made a list of tips here to help you get your downloads for free-legally!

Start a Serious Music Collection Tip 1 Don’t break the law. Is it really worth going to jail or getting a huge fine just for some free Mp3s? There are a few completely legal sites to download MP3s from (more on this later), so try and stay away from the torrent sites and things like that. You may feel anonymous but when you make illegal downloads you will leave traces of your IP address, and anyone with half a brain can find your real home address details from that!

Start a Serious Music Collection Tip 2 Don’t believe the hype. How many times have you found a “free” music download site only to be asked to create a membership and pay some money? Anyway, you’ll soon find that most sites claiming to offer free music game or video downloads offer nothing of the sort. As soon as you try and download something they will do their best to get your credit card details or make you sign up for some kind of membership scheme-be careful!

Start a Serious Music Collection Tip 3 Don’t be taken in by the trashy sites. You’ll find a lot of sites online that will maybe offer one or two free downloads, but will seriously spam you with popups and stuff while you try and get those downloads. Sites like that make good money from advertising, so make sure you’re aware of what they really want! You’ll also find that downloads from sites like this are A, mind-numbingly slow, and B, sometimes not even what you asked for. As a little extra gift they sometimes even contain spyware or viruses! I avoid sites like this completely-You wouldn’t want your Ipod ruined by some bad downloads would you?

But wait, it’s not all bad! There are a select few sites online that are perfectly legal and will allow you to download anything you want- games, music, videos, whatever, and all for free on an unlimited basis. What’s the catch? Well there is an admin fee. It’s usually between $25 and $50 or so, and covers your downloads for life. The fee is necessary as it helps them keep the download speeds high and to make sure they have all the latest music games and videos for your Ipod. If you are looking to get a serious amount of downloads, a site like this is going to be your best bet.

As you’ve seen, there can be more to finding somewhere to get free Ipod downloads than you first thought, so take some time to weigh up the pros and cons. For more info on which are the best legal sites, check out the links below.
