Has The Ipod Made In Car Cd Players Obsolete

So there you were, cruising down the open road with the T-tops out, your hair blowing in the wind and your A-track pumping Led Zeppelin. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Of course it does. My older brother talks about these days. They were known as pre-cassette tape. I was once rummaging through my brother's ancient collection of A-tracks, and thought to myself, WOW, these look like old Atari games or something. Thank God things got a little more compact.

Soon enough came the cassette tapes, and we all applauded. After all, they were so much more compact and easy to stuff in your glove box. Then by the time the 90's hit, everyone was interested in CDs. These were a phenomenal innovation at the time. Finally we had a way to play music, without a bunch or rewinding and fast-forwarding. The push of a button on our in car cd players lead to the next track and so on. It was a miracle!

Where do in car cd players stand now? I certainly have one in my vehicle. I still think the disk changer with multiple CDs works fine. However, the classic in car cd players are slowly becoming a thing of the past. Before you know it, they will be deemed obsolete. Just like every other piece of technology on this planet, a new and improved one comes along and boots it out. That is the way the process works. As of now, it is IPods and MP3 players. This compact musical wonders are currently all the rage. And I do not just mean with teenagers.

Kids and adults alike are embracing the IPod craze. Suddenly we have the ability to download up to 15,000 songs onto one small, hand-held device. How can anyone pass this up? If you have not already, make use of one of these in your ride or at the gym. Connect your IPod via a cassette tape and pop it into your dash stereo. Now you can enjoy infinite tunes as if it's one gigantic CD. Or, purchase an IPod Shuffle and clip the tiny device on your shirt at the gym. Enjoy all the tunes you want, minus the hassle of a bulky Discman.

It's safe to say that the in car cd players won't be sticking around for generations to come. Most cars now are coming IPod or MP3 ready. Just plug in your micro music store and you are off. Hey, it beats buying tons of new CDs.

IPod Video Casting

Can you believe the ultra small new thin Apple iPods? These are very cool personal technology gadgets indeed. Now these tiny thin devices have complete Video Capabilities. Steve Jobs the CEO of Apple announced the creation of a newest additions and improvements to the iPod with a 2.5-inch full color flattest panel display and video-playback capabilities. Are you impressed? Well, you are not alone as the official iPod website has gotten 30 million hits and almost tied the one day hits with Hurricane Katrina.

Ah, but it gets even better as the iPod hosts a 320 X 240 pixel resolution and has bettered all personal tech devices its size. Now even the US Military is hot for iPod video-casting for the troops, yet this off the shelf technology will cost only $299 for a 30 GB or $399 for 60 GB version and well we know that the Military cannot even buy a hammer or toilet seat for that?

Well do you want one yet? I bet you do, but more importantly investors in Apple Stock are betting on it, along with the company. They are talking about selling songs for $ .99 and movies, full length for $1.99 download. One thing for certain is that “Vidcasting” is the next new thing. Think on this

Important Things to Know About Ipods

It's one thing to find creepy people on a subway, but it’s another to have that creepy person mug someone for their iPod. Because iPods are so popular (and become more so with new models like the video iPod or the iPod nano) they are more likely to get stolen by a mugger. Someone may want a free iPod, and rather than buying one, or looking online for a free iPod, they take someone else’s iPod.

Because it is so common, some major cities have published a version of guidelines for people to protect themselves and their ipods. Many of these flyers share statistics of the amount of ipods that are stolen. According to one statistic from San Francisco, only 15 robberies were reported, but 11% of those were ipods). Many people suggest using regular headphones rather than the white pieces so that it becomes less obvious. Anyone that is smart with their iPod and knows how to conceal it will most likely keep their iPod, and the muggers will not get a free iPod very easily.

Concealing an iPod is easy, but learning how to use a new iPod can be frustrating. One of the biggest issues facing new iPod owners is the stacks of music that remain unripped and an unrealistic expectation that go along with the loading process. But owning an iPod should not be a burden. Any iPod owner can have access to thousands of songs on their iPod nano, if they give themselves plenty of time to load the songs. An entire library of music does not need to be loaded at one time. It is possible to load music onto the new iPod in increments. Allowing the iTunes collection to grow makes for better selection when loading the iPod. Also, an incomplete library doesn't mean failure. An entire CD collection does not have to be ripped in order to enjoy an iPod. Remember that can only a single song can be listened to at any one time time.

Don't feel tied to older music. People grow and change. The CDs from a decade or two ago might help connect to the past but if musical tastes have changed over time, allow new tracks in the library without feeling obligated to the older collection. No one will be checking in to make sure all those 80's and 90's CDs got digitized.

One of the great things about iTunes is that new music can be tested without commitment. It is possible to listen to the free 30-second samples and check out new play lists. And don't forget that every Tuesday, iTunes offers free tracks that might lead to new artists and styles to enjoy on the iPod. If a CD collection is just too much of a burden to face, enjoy any number of free pod casts on the new iPod and if possible, own a 5G or newer unit to watch TV and movies as well. The iPod does not begin or end with music. iPods shouldn't remain wrapped and unused on a coffee table.

Does the Lifepop Stereo Pet Carrier really steal the spotlight? Chances are it probably does not steal the show more than the pup itself, but it's a pretty cool iPod-compatible accessory. It can be used to carry around the pooch as he or she rocks out to iPod music, or whimpers in abject misery while listening to you’re the old music collection on the iPod. It's basically a soft padded bag with built-in speakers and a mini-plug to hook into the iPod. There's a fully zippered ventilated top so Fido will be able to breathe while grooving.

PSP Versus iPod Video

So many people have asked me what do I like the best, the new Play Station Portable or the video iPod. This is a tough question as they are both awesome products. They both have pluses and minuses about them but having both of them is the best way to go if you can afford it. However, if you are unable to have both products then I highly recommend that you read this article and decide for yourself which is really the best.

I bought my video iPod back in November of 2006. I wasn’t quite sure even what this gadget was must less what all it did. Once I got home and plugged it in I soon found out that I was instantly addicted to it. I could have hundreds of CDs and many movies available at my fingertips and all I had to carry around was this little bitty portable device. Then I realized that I had bought the 30gb iPod (yes I really had no idea what I was buying at the time). I have so much space on it that I currently have about 20 movies and literally hundreds of songs all at the push of a simple little button. There are even little games on the video iPods like solitaire and brick that come with the iPod. For a small little fee you are also able to purchase other games for the iPod like Diamond Mind and Zuma from the all too popular iTunes.com.

So, the games on the video iPods are limited. This is the major drawback the video iPod. If more games were made available for the iPod it would be the ultimate entertainment package all in one.

This is where the all too popular Play Station Portable comes in. With its great graphics and wide screen the Play Station Portable is the ultimate portable gaming system. That’s about all that I can say for it. Mine just sits around here and collects dust most of the time. Why? Well, in my personal opinion, unless you are addicted to playing Play Station games to begin with, it was a waste of money for me and probably will be for you as well.

So, you can browse the internet. Yea, at speeds of less than dial-up, oh and nine times out of ten half of the pages won’t load either. It’s certainly not something that you can use for intense internet web browsing. Oh, and I would never recommend trying to check your email on a PSP and forget about trying to load myspace.com on it - it’s not going to happen. If it does happen it’s taken so long for you to get there that you have forgotten what you were there to begin with for.

Finally, there is the ultimate drawback to owning the PSP. SPACE! It’s bad enough that it doesn’t come with any internal memory for you to save on to, but then you are hit up to buy memory cards which only come in 1gb or 2gb. This is certainly NOT enough memory to put movies and music on it. You may be able to have one movie on it and a few songs at a time. However, adding 20 movies and hundreds of songs to the PSP just is not going to happen.

In conclusion what do I think about these two products when put side to side? Well, the PSP is certainly the best if all you want to do is play games. However, don’t even think about getting the PSP without a memory card because you won’t be able to save any of your games. Oh, and be prepared to carry around all of the little games that you want to play as they aren’t stored on the game system.

The Apple video iPod certainly wins my vote for the best product! I will never have to carry a movie or a CD around again. If you want to be able to watch movies on-the-go, listen to hundreds or even thousands of songs on-the-go, have a few games right at your fingertips, download podcasts or video podcasts, view pictures, watch your favorite TV shows, or even just keep track of your contact list then the video iPod is just what you’re looking for.

Why Does the iPod Continue to Kill the Competition

Since the first generation iPod was released in 2001, the sexy little digital audio players have continued to lead the market. But what is it that these particular mp3 players offer that the competition obviously lacks?

  • Style – there are literally hundreds of words just itching to be used in the description of iPods; sexy, sleek, stylish, unobtrusive, cute, cool, hip…the list could go on forever but you get the idea. Each subsequent generation has gotten smaller, and thinner and even more appealing to consumers and it goes without saying that future generations will carry on this trend.
  • A household name – Apple was a contender in the electronics industry well before it released the first iPods and so it has a name that associate with quality. Apple and its products can therefore be trusted and as a result the iPod has built up quite a fan club. Loyalty counts for a lot in such a competitive industry.
  • Quality product – iPods are synonymous with great sounding music and have been voted top mp3 player in a multitude of polls and questionnaires since their conception. They are also durable, reliable and available in a choice of models.
  • Simplicity - iPods are incredibly easy to use as pretty much everything is controlled with the unique clickwheel. Millions of children and weekend drinkers would definitely agree with this last point!
  • Additional functions – the iPod is more than just an mp3 player. Depending on which one you buy you could have photo storage, video playback, world clocks, contact lists, a stopwatch, e-mail lists, colour cover art and even the option to use your iPod as a flash memory pen. With each new generation the range of features grows and so does their popularity.
  • Marketing – Apple have been marketing quality products for so long that they are literally masters of the art. A good marketing strategy can promote a new and little known product straight to the top.
  • Accessories and peripherals – the choice of accessories and plug-in peripherals for the iPod range make it a product just waiting to be individuated. You can protect it with tattoo skins or brightly coloured socks. You can convert it into a voice recorder or even a flashlight; the options are endless.
  • Memory – compared to some of their competitors Apple have gone all out on the memory capacity of their new iPods, especially the iPod video which is available as 40GB or 60GB. That is enough storage room for 15,000 songs! The added bonus is that Apple’s prices are still in the same region as that of their inferior competitors.
  • Choice – there are now a number of iPod model to chose from so even the pickiest people shouldn’t have a problem finding one to suit their needs.
  • iTunes – one of the major pluses for iPod users is the iTunes Music Store. Here you can download individual songs or entire albums legally. At present there are over 1 million songs to choose from in addition to photos and podcasts. What more could you ask for?

Apple are continuously coming up with improvements, extra functions and new ideas regarding their iPods and providing they continue to do this they should have no problem staying at the top of the league.

Top iPod Problems and How You Can Fix Them

Most say the small shape of the iPod is an advantage, while others argue that the increased mobility just increases the chances of an accidents happening.

The most common accident the iPod faces is simply being dropped. This kind of accident can happen anywhere at any time, and if it happens to drop outside on concrete you might be in trouble. The least that can happen is a minor scratch, which can easily just be ignored or buffed out. If you start experiencing hard drive problems because of the drop, you'll know something bad has happend. Although many prefer to send their iPods off to specialists for repair, some owners prefer to do it themselves.

If you're a do it yourselfer, or you just like to experiment, try buying your own parts to fix your iPod. This might be a good alternative to having it repaired, especially if you dread the time you have to wait for repairs to be completed. You can purchase broken iPods with workable parts, or buy individual screens, batteries, and harddrives on websites like eBay.

If you've owned your iPod for a year or longer, you might see signs of battery weakness. When this happens, you'll know that it's life is coming up short. A battery replacement would be a good investment in this case, and will solve the problem nicely.

Be careful if you keep your iPod in your back pocket. If you aren't careful with your iPod while it's in your jacket, pants, or pocket, it can be prone to bending and cracking. It's important to remember that the iPod isn't made out of steel, and can sometimes be a fragile device, especially the LCD screen. Unfortunately there's no fix for a cracked LCD screen - you'll have to repair it and get the screen replaced. If you obtain the proper parts and equipment, repairing your own iPod is within your grasp.

Download iPod Movie Video With 2 Simple Clicks of The Mouse

You can now have video and TV on the go with your iPod. To download iPod movie video has never been easier. Many people are asking how to download music video to iPods. It's easier than you may think. It only takes a couple clicks of your mouse!

Physical updates aside, the biggest feature of this new iPod model is that it now plays video. What? Yes, you can download iPod movie videos.

Does this new iPod do something radical with video playback to put PSP and other similar devices to shame?

Well, not exactly. The new iPod plays videos, and that’s about it. There is nothing remotely revolutionary about the way it plays video. Ah, but when you take the ease of use of getting videos onto those portable devices into account when you go to download iPod movie video, that’s where the new Video iPod truly shines.

For all of PSP’s widescreen glory, you cannot yet output that video to an external display. The new iPod however makes video output seem like the easiest thing to do. What’s more, you can even hook up your iPod to your PC, open an Apple video store, and upload last night’s episode of your favorite TV show with one or two clicks of your mouse. It’s that simple.

For the new video content, there is a new “Videos” menu available on the iPod, and under that are options for “Video playlists,” “Music Videos,” “Movies,” “TV Shows,” and “Video Podcasts.”

As another plus to this nifty device, Apple has made the interface for playing movies extremely similar to playing music. Just click the middle wheel once and you control the volume with the scroll wheel. Click it a second time and you’re surfing through video.

What It Can Play?

Here are the new iPod’s supported video formats to consider when you download iPod music videos.

• H.264 video: up to 768 kbps, 320x240, 30 frames per sec, Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC up to 160 kbps, 48 khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats

• MPEG-4 video: up to 2.5 mbps, 480x480, 30 frames per sec, Simple Profile with AAC-LC p to 160 kbps, 48 khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats

Apple advertised 14 hours of battery life for the 30 GB model. That’s for music, of course. That and provided that you play it at about ¼ volume.

At ¾ volume, the new iPod can be trusted to play and play for six hours straight without any problems before it gets into the “red” colored section of the battery indicator. That’s far from what has been advertised but for most people, that seems to be enough. For what it’s worth, the 60 GB model is rated by Apple for 20 hours of life. That’s 3 hours worth of video playback.

How To Download Music To My iPod From iTunes With These Simple Steps

Here are many very helpful tips when asking how to download music to my ipod that will make your life much easier for downloading music from iTunes and many other useful tips

This is how you can download iTunes onto your computer. It’s really very simple. Put music onto iTunes. Plug in your iPod into the computer using the USB cord it came with, and follow the instructions that pop up.

If you have already put music onto your ipod, the only way to get music off is by plugging it into the computer and either un-checking the song, or deleting it from your iTunes library.

It can be plugged into a different computer than the original one, but I do NOT recommend it, because it will take off all the songs you already have and put the songs the new computer has on it.

You can connect your ipod to the computer using a USB port. If you don’t know what a USB port is then just find a place on the comp where the plug fits and it will probably work.

Once the ipod is connected to the comp and you are on itunes, it should automatically take the songs from your play list and put it on the ipod. You could read the little manual that comes with the ipod too. How to download music to my ipod is a question that can be answered pretty quickly.

One of the things with how to download music to my ipod and getting music from itunes is after a while it gets a bit expensive, so your probably better off getting music from friends cds.

To get music from a cd to your ipod you have to first insert the cd and it should come up in your itunes browser. Just select the cd then click import. It will then go to your library where you can then put it on your ipod.

From a CD: When you insert a CD into your disk drive, a screen should come up in iTunes that lists the track names. In the upper right-hand corner of the screen will be a button that says "Import CD." You're iPod should automatically sync with your iTunes when you connect it to the computer.

Free iPod Music Download and Converting DVDs - Cds and Photos

Legally, you should first install iTunes on your PC or Apple for any free iPod music download to your Nano.

Here are simple steps to consider for getting free iPod music downloads.

Plug the Nano into the computer using the included USB cable.

iTunes will automatically show up with the Nano, in which you just drag and drop your music files obtained through iTunes Music Store, or through ripped CD's onto the iPod icon.

Apple’s iPod does a lot more for you than just getting a free iPod music download and play music and display photos.

The new Video iPod plays videos and not only that, this iPod also allows you to output video into your TV or your computer easily.

Along with updating iTunes and the iTunes Music Store, Apple has made video content available for purchase and download for your iPod. Now, downloading the latest and greatest hits on your iPod has never been easier and there are plenty of free iPod music download sites available.

But what about the videos you already own?

Files such as iMovies, DVDs that you own, TV shows that you’ve recorded with a Mac-based digital video recorder (DVR), what do you do with them?

Can you play them back on the new iPod?

The answer is, Yes! And converting them is very simple. That's one of the many great features of today's iPod technology beyond a free iPod music download.

There is software that allows you to take any movie from you DVD collection and play it back in your iPod Video on the go.

Here are several more tips for other things you can do with your Nano iPod in regards to photos besides only a free ipod music download.

1. The first thing you should consider is a version of iTunes that supports photos and the Nano. It's best to get the latest version at Apple’s website if you can.

2. After you have taken time to install iTunes you can connect your iPod nano to your computer. If iTunes is not open, you need to open it. Your iPod should appear in the source list on the left of the window. If it does not, eject your iPod for Mac’s or stop your iPod for Windows and disconnect it from your computer. Wait a few seconds and reconnect the iPod with iTunes open.

3. When iTunes recognizes your iPod, you can edit iTunes preferences. Select the iPod tab. There should be a tab within the iPod tab that is labeled Photos. Select that tab now.

4. In the Photos tab, you can select folders where iTunes should search for photos. You can also let iTunes automatically synchronize all of your photos or manually select which photos should get synchronized, just like how you can setup your music. Once you update your iPod, you should have photos on it.

5. If you do not have a photo tab in the iPod options dialog box, you either have an older version of iTunes that does not support photo synchronization, an older iPod that does not support photos, or you may not have your iPod connected to your computer.

6. So, make sure you are using a verison of iTunes that supports photos, with an iPod that supports photos and your iPod is connected to your computer.

These tips will make life much easier for you when using iPods for free iPod music downloads and the many new features that are available today for tech lovers.

iPod Video Downloads Tips

iPod video downloads have been popularized since iPod fitted their new generation gadgets with capabilities to play video. The older iPods are phasing out as they make way to the latest models that play iPod video downloads. More iPod users now own an iPod Video that plays not only music but movies and videos as well. While the small LCD screen pales in comparison to the huge TV screens we are used to, it is still the perfect companion for us when we are on the move in a train or bus, or while working out on the thread mill in the gym.

Nowadays, our iPods are equipped with 30 GB to 80 GB of disk capacity. This can hold up to 100 hours of video. So unless you are traveling around the world for 4 full days without eating, sleeping and going for washroom breaks, it is definitely sufficient to entertain you for hours with quality MPEG 4 iPod video downloads. However, one thing you need to be mindful of is its battery life. It probably would last long enough for you to finish one or two one-hour TV show episode before it needs recharging.

Folks are always on the look-out for a good place to access iPod video downloads. iTunes is one popular place to download iPod music videos. People like the loads of iPod TV show downloads, iPod video downloads, iPod movie downloads and iPod music downloads they can find there. Try searching for latest TV shows and download them to your iPod. You may purchase the entire season or just one episode you missed for $1.99.

If you are looking for interesting and entertaining iPod video downloads, you may be able to find them at the video search engines etc. Some of these videos are home-made videos made by amateurs. You will even find music videos uploaded by idol hopefuls. But you really would not know if they will become the stars of tomorrow.

Nike - iPod Running System Review

Imagine having a personal trainer keeping track of all your exercises so you dont have to this is exactly what the Nike+ iPod running system does. Apple is not paying me to say this but - this is an amazing product and I cant believe I was running for so long without it.

Here is what you need:

- Apple iPod Nano ($150)
- Nike+ Sports Kit ($30)
- Nike+ Shoes ($100)
- Nike+ Armband ($30) OPTIONAL

So here is how it works (without boring you with too much technical detail):

1 Connect

When you are ready to go jogging, put on your Nike+ shoes and connect the iPod receiver (then walk around to activate the receiver in the shoe sometimes this is easier said than done).

2 Setup

Select how you want the iPod to track your workout Time, Distance or Calories Select your playlist (Ive made a special Running playlist its a collection of fast paced songs that get me moving when I hear them)

3 - Start running

At certain intervals during your workout, the music will soften and a pleasant Female voice (you can choose a Male voice) will inform you of your progress. Half way point and 100 meters to go are just some of the things it says.

4 Check Your Status

You can press the center button on the iPod at any time to get a more detailed status update, things like distance remaining, time and calories are all calculated on the fly and spoken to you this is pretty cool.

5 End Workout

Once you are done with your workout, choose End workout and a friendly voice congratulates you and give you your workout stats.

6 Sync Your iPod

When you get back home from your workout, sync your iPod with your computer and the Apple magic begins. Your workout details (time, distance, calories, time or day, even the playlist you listened to while exercising) is sent to the Nike+ website.

7 Nike+ Website

When you sync your iPod, you are taken to the website instantly. This website will show you lots of data about your workouts, as an example you can see precisely when in your workout you ran faster/slower this looks like a smooth line graph, the higher points of the graph representing the quicker I was running. You can view your workouts by Day, Week or Month.

IPOD SECRET when you achieve certain goals or beat records, celebrity voices congratulate you on your accomplishment. As an example, when I ran a personal best for the 1 mile (8 minutes and 44 seconds, thank you) Lance Armstrong congratulated me on my little victory. I have to admit, this was really cool and unexpected - I told at least 10 people that day about my accomplishment.

My Improvement

If I could improve on one thing about the Nike+ iPod running system it would be for the website to offer me a downloadable spreadsheet of my workout data so I can perform my own comparisons in Excel. Other than that, this is a GREAT system and definitely worth the money.

If you are a consistent runner (or would like to be) this system is definitely for you. Its easy to setup and a great way to keep track of your running progress. Always remember this if it can be measured, it can be improved.

iPod History – The Quickest Evolution Ever

The first iPod was released only 5 years ago but the difference between that one and the one released earlier in 2006 is really quite astounding as you will now see.

1st Generation iPod
The 1st Generation iPod was launched at the end of October 2001 with dimensions to rival the established competition. It stood 4inches high and less than 3inches wide with a weight of around 6ounces. This initial iPod had a 5GB memory which could hold up to 1000 songs. It also had a high resolution screen and a revolutionary type of control system – the scroll or click wheel. However at $400 it was considered a major purchase and at this point the software needed to use the iPod was only available on the Mac.

2nd Generation iPod
The 2nd Generation iPod had the advantage of being compatible with PCs through a FireWire cable. There was also now software for use with Windows which opened the iPod up to a lot more users. The actual iPod itself changed very little. The scroll wheel became a solid fixture as apposed to a spinning wheel and there was an extra port for the attachment of a FireWire cable.

3rd Generation iPod
The spring of 2003 saw iPod sales really take off as the 3rd Generation was launched. One of the biggest changes to this new model was the ability to link it to a PC with a USB cable; the USB port was a lot more common on PCs than the FireWire port and so many more people could successfully use an iPod with their home computer. In addition the 3rd generation iPod had a bigger memory (20GB) and solid function buttons below the screen.

At the same time Apple launched the iTunes Music Store around the world which provided a legal source for 1000s of songs. iPod sales went through the roof and the brand became a household name.

4th Generation iPod
However Apple continued to release newer and more advanced models and at the end of 2003 the first of the 4th Generation iPods was launched. The iPod mini took the iPod in a whole new direction – small is beautiful. It was only half the size of the original iPod and because of its compact size the face changed quite dramatically in that the function buttons were rendered obsolete and everything was controlled by the scroll wheel. It also had to have a smaller screen.

The next step was to make the screen colour and this emerged with the iPod photo. This model had a larger hard drive and a longer battery life in addition to the ability to display colour photos and album covers.

By now Apple had pretty much conquered the digital audio device market but their next release proved to be a step towards taking over the flash drive market as well. This happened in January 2005 and was named the iPod shuffle. The shuffle was the smallest model yet and didn’t include an LCD screen on the face. However it’s 512MB memory was at least twice the size of its nearest competitor and the fact that it actually shuffled the songs so that the user never knew what was coming next and its very low price of $99 meant that the little iPod sold just as well as every other model before it.

The last of the 4th Generation iPods entered the market in July 2005 and was the tiniest to date. The iPod nano made use of a high capacity flash memory chip which enabled it to have the considerable memory of 4GB but still be…well, nano! The nano had new features as well such as calendars, address books, world times and games.

5th Generation iPod
The newest iPod is the 5th Generation iPod video. This has the capability of playing music videos, TV programmes and films downloaded from the iTunes Music Store. It has all of the features of the nano but as its full colour screen is bigger the overall dimensions are also slightly bigger (not too much though).

As you can see Apple has kept the changes coming and people have carried on buying and there doesn’t seem to be any evidence to say their latest release is their last.

Five Reasons Why Your 3rd Generation iPod Battery is Worth Replacing

As the owner of a popular third-party iPod battery replacement business, I have the privilege of being able to speak with many iPod owners on a daily basis. It always amazes me how many customers with a 3rd Generation iPod proclaim that it is simply the best iPod that Apple ever made.

About the only thing that I don’t like about the third generation iPod is its’ inability to charge over USB – but I digress.

As it turns out, the very first MP3 player that I ever owned was a 3rd Gen iPod, and I have to agree that it was the most successful product in the iPod family. Here are five reasons why I think this to be the case:

First, the third generation iPod was released in a variety of hard drive sizes: 10GB, 15GB, 20GB, 30GB, and 40GB capacities. This variation in capacity allowed consumers to select a player that not only fit their storage requirements, but also their budget. Never before could you buy a digital music player that let you to store up to 20,000 songs before on one portable device and slip it in your pocket.

Secondly, the 3G iPod has one of the best interfaces ever conceived. If you are not familiar with the layout, the 3rd Generation iPod has an all-white front (including an all-white ScrollWheel) and a metallic silver back. The location of the navigation buttons are not on the ScrollWheel, like you find on more recent models, but instead appear above the scroll wheel and below the LCD. This is a big deal: many people that I have spoken with absolutely love the buttons in this location, as they allow for faster navigation and volume control adjustments, perfect for folks on the go or in the midst of a killer workout.

Frankly, I would not be surprised if Apple eventually integrated a 'virtual' ScrollWheel into the display of the iPhone or future iPod models like you often see on rumor-mill mock-ups, but give users the ability to select the 'classic' 3rd gen iPod ScrollWheel layout in addition to the more recent scroll wheel design.

Next, although the third gen iPod suffers from the same iPod battery issues as all of the other models before and after it (the lithium-ion battery will eventually lose its' ability to maintain a charge), this cool model was designed with has a tad more space inside the unit. This extra space is perfect for installing a longer-lasting third generation iPod battery that can far outperform the original stock battery that came inside the unit, often hours and hours more playtime.

Fourth, although the 3rd Generation iPod cannot display photographs or play video like its’ younger siblings, it is in my opinion is one of the most durable iPods ever built. The hard drive inside a 3rd gen iPod is completely ensconced in protective padding to absorb shock and other mild abuse you might throw at it. Furthermore, the screen on this model is much more scratch-resistant than you might find on an early version of the iPod nano, for example.

Finally, the 3rd Gen iPod just feels right in you hand - it's the perfect weight, perfect size, and holds the perfect amount of music for the casual listener to the serious audiophile.
