iPods are a great invention, however many have complained about the lack of playtime and poor battery life. Previously, replacing an iPod battery was next to impossible. So when your
battery dies, its time for a new iPod. This of course proved to be extremely expensive. As a result, manufacturers have begun producing aftermarket iPOD batteries for a DIY conscious
producer. There are even high capacity batteries that will basically give you more playtime on your iPod in comparison to the original iPod batteries. An even better incentive to replace
that dying battery! I know what you're thinking, you don't want to rip apart that shiny iPod of yours! Aftermarket iPod batteries were designed to make the installation as simple as
possible (it wasn't really all that difficult to begin with anyway). Since the batteries installation doesn't require any soldering, the most difficult part is opening up the physical case. Since the iPod doesn't contain any screws, the casing must be pried off in order to access the internal battery. I do not recommend using a screwdriver to do this as it will damage the
case. A guitar pick has been recommended to do the job, but even better, some batteries come with the non scratch nylon tools required to open your iPod safely.
Below are some instructions on how to install your battery. I am aware that there are more than one Steps to install the battery:
* Lay your iPod on a piece of cloth o non scratch surface. Using your non scratch tools, slowly insert it under the cover and begin to pry off the cover. You should hear it begin to open.
Work your way by sliding the tool all around the edges.
* The iPod is basically made of two halves. With both halves separated, put the empty shell aside.
* The other half will have all the internal components in there. You should be able to spot the battery in there. You will see that the battery is connected to the main circuit board of your
iPod. Carefully unplug the old battery by pulling on the end of the connector.
* Get your new battery and plug in into the connector socket on your iPod's circuit board. The connector will only go in one way so do make sure you insert it the right way up.
* Once it's all connected up, put the cover back on by pressing the edges of the two halves together.
* Plug your charger in and let your new iPod charge up for at least 4 hours. All new batteries should get a longer than normal charge the first time around.
* Now you're ready to enjoy your music once more!

Designer Fashions for your iPod.
The iPod has become a cultural phenomenon. Not since the original Nintendo gaming system has the general public gone so utterly mad over a high-tech consumer gadget. You see them everywhere you go.....on the subway.....in the schoolyard.....on the runway. That's right, my friends. High end fashion design houses like Louis Vuitton and Gucci have launched a line of iPod cases that are sure to please even the most jaded fashionista.
It should come as little surprise that somebody is designing stylish cases for the most stylish gadget ever created. There are countless iPod cases available on the market, most of which are tacky or ugly or made from yucky rubber-like materials. Frankly, I couldn't be happier that people with a real understanding of design and fashion are giving fashion-conscious consumers some stylish options.
These cases are fashion must-haves for this year. My personal favorite is designed by Paul Smith. It's called the Swirl. It reminds me of those psychedelic designs of the late 60's or early 70's. Think Mod. The multicolored strips accent the smooth texture leather very nicely, and it has a very snug fit. It is designed for the iPod mini, but it will accommodate both the 4 and 6 Gig models. I love it!
I am also quite keen on the Gucci cases. They are constructed from the classic Gucci monogrammed material, available in beige/ebony with dark brown leather trim. It also comes with a silver Gucci emblem on the front, and a nice carrying strap. The only drawback I see with these cases is the price. At close to $200 USF, these cases cost almost as much as the iPod itself! I will admit, though, that these cases are slick!
For those not interested in spending so much money on a case, Apple has quite a few reasonably priced cases on their website. There is a company called Incase that has a wonderful line of cases for your iPod. They are oh-so-stylish. They look like designer cases, without the designer price. I have a brown and pink leather one on order. It has a wonderful argyle pattern on it, and we all love argyle.....don't we? I can hardly wait for mine to arrive! Which one do you have?

How to get a free iPod::for dummies::
So are you one of the many people who when they visit a webpage, gets a pop up saying "FREE IPOD". Yeah, that was me awhile ago.Until I decided to try this out.
Actually I've read story's on how people get cheated out of an iPod, because the people who are advertising it are frauds. But then I stumbled over a company called "GRATIS". They where the main source of this free iPod thing, so why not just join the train and do it.
A.) First I was brought to the page, where I was asked to give my email address. Create a whole new email address. I was bombarded with spam.
B.) Then complete an order. Some require credit cards, so be prepared.
B2--- If you do not have a credit card, then you can purchase a western union prepaid master card, and use it. Be sure to cancel the offer after the amount needed.
READ EVERY OFFER CAREFULLY, AND RECORD WHEN YOU HAVE TO CANCEL
THEM.
the free dvd offers are easier to complete, if you have a creditcard.
C.) After completing and order you will receive credit for it (you only need one credit (i.e.) complet only one order.) (It'lltake atleast 2 to 8 days for you to receive credit) (it isrumored that the movie offers give you credit faster).
D.) Then you must refer five friends, and they must complete an offer (in order for you to receive yours) (Then they might want an iPod, so they might go throught these steps)
Wining this iPod is not easy (what is). And when you think about it, it really isn't free (since you pay for one DVD, for the price of one). But why pay 299.99 for an iPod, when you can just
pay 12.99 for a DVD and get an iPod for free. You choose.

The New 5th Generation Ipods
With the release of the new iPod Video, there are now officially three iPod models for the 5th generation of iPods. The earlier 4th generation models, including the popular iPod Mini, iPod Photo, U2 and 20GB iPod are now officially history.
The three official 5G iPod models include the iPod Shuffle, iPod Nano and iPod Video. What's the difference between this new range of iPods and the previous 4G models? Broadly speaking, the differences are:
Hard Disk
Two of the new iPod models, iPod Shuffle and iPod Nano, are based on flash hard disk technology. This new hard disk is ultra slim and is able to withstand shock and vigorous movement. Unlike 4G models, this make the iPod Shuffle and iPod Nano ultra slim and allow them to be used for vigorous activities, including sporting activity, dance, accidental drops, etc. Previous 4G models were less robust and vigorous activity tend to cause possible malfunction.
Battery life
Battery life on the 5G iPod has improved tremendously. One of the major complaints about 4G iPod was the short battery life(8hrs) and battery life draining away quickly after heavy use. The new iPod lasts up to 14 hrs and has a better battery lifespan.
Color is standard
Unlike 4G model, where the iPod Photo model was the only model with color, the new iPod Nano and iPod Video comes standard with color screen and playback.
Choice of video
With the new iPod Video, there is now a range of activities, including data, music, photo and video that can be supported on one iPod. Previously, video was not available as an option.
Standardized casing
The 4G iPod included the multi-color iPod mini, with a choice of pink, blue, green and silver. The only option for black was the U2 model.
Today, the colors has been standardized to black or white (except iPod Shuffle - White only). In addition, all iPod casing has been standardized to hard acrylic instead of the anionized aluminium for iPod Mini and hard acrylic for the other models.
However, the hard acrylic casing used for the 5G iPod models seems to have a tendency to scratch as reported by many iPod user websites. It is advised that a iPod casing or protector film be purchased for the new 5G iPod immediately. A good selection can be found here.
Compact Clickwheel
The iPod Clickwheel was previously a scroll wheel that was designed and supplied by a 3rd party. The new iPod clickwheels are now designed and produced by Apple itself. The functionalities are similar but users reported better response feedback.
Headphone jack
Headphone jacks for all iPod models, including the very first 1G iPod up till the 4G models, has always been on top of the iPod. The iPod Nano breaks ground by having the headphone jack at the bottom.
Which iPod model to choose?
As of this writing, the iPod Video has only been out for less than 2 weeks. The current 5G range of iPod seems to be the most complete and versatile thus far, and we can see that the 3 different models are essentially targeted at different segments of the iPod user market. A basic guide to choosing the right iPod model can be broadly classified as:
iPod Shuffle
The iPod Shuffle is obviously targeted at users who have a lower budget or those who only have an occasional need for a music player. The Shuffle comes without a screen and user can only choose to listen to music in a sequence or have it shuffled randomly. Because of it's lower price, this model has become a choice for those who desire for an iPod but may not have the neccessary budget.
iPod Nano
The iPod Nano is now the mainstream iPod model with the exit of 4G iPod models. With a size and thickness slightly larger than a credit card, this is now a runaway favorite iPod model. Users have a choice of data, music and photo with this colored screen iPod.
iPod Video
The newest kid on the block, the iPod Video, is desired by those with a higher budget or who wish to watch video on their iPod. It has a slightly larger screen than the iPod Nano and play a crisp 30 fps video display. With not many iPod videos available for download as yet, we'll need to see if this model can overtake the iPod Nano as the mainstream iPod model.

New Apple 30 GB iPod Details
The new iPod, despite all of its hyped up new technical additions, is still just an iPod. It's not a Video iPod, a ViPod, a V-Pod, or anything else. Rather, it still goes by its original name of iPod. This new model is a 30GB device that has a screen size of roughly the same size (but much higher quality) than the current iPods. Really, without knowing what it is, most might not even be able to tell this little darling can playvideo at all.
he new 30GB iPod is 30 percent thinner than the previous 20GB color model, but the height and width are the same. (The current60GB model is roughly 10 percent slimmer than theolder20GB
model.) This may not seem like a big difference on paper, but we were impressed with the new model's slimmed-down figure when we held the two side by side. The 2.5-inch backlit LCD, at 320 by 240 pixels, is noticeably bigger than the previous 2-inch 220-by-176 screen.
The iPod's interface is mostly the same, though Podcasts and Audiobooks are now located in the Music menu. A new Videos menu offers access to video playlists, Movies, Music Videos, and
Video Podcasts. The Video Settings menu (also accessible in the Videos menu) lets you enable or disable TV output, toggle between NTSC and PAL format, and turn the widescreen on and off.
The stopwatch and screen lock that were introduced with the iPod nano are also present, although you can now have up to three lap timers on the screen at once, thanks to the larger LCD.
The specs on the video are as follows: File format support includes MOV, MP4, and M4V (Apple's DRM-protected video content). The iPod plays H.264 (Baseline Profile) video at up to
768 Kbps, 320 by 240 pixels, and 30 frames per second, as well as MPEG-4 (Simple Profile) at up to 2.5 Mbps, 480 by 480 pixels, and 30 fps. The stereo audio portions of videos are in 48-kHz
AAC-LC format at up to 160 Kbps. According to Apple, you can fit roughly 75 hours of video on the 30GB model and twice that on the 60GB version.

Most people don't. Yet, market analysts estimate that the average iPod owner spend as much as 30% of the original iPod price on additional accessories! That's a whopping US$60-US$90 on iPod accessories that each iPod owner will spend!
Many people are simply spending their money on the wrong accessories! In fact, many are going for fancy accessories such as car transceiver kit, wireless remote kit, speaker kit even without realizing what are the first accessories they should get.
Get the Basic iPod Accessory before getting the Fancy Stuff!
Do you, as a iPod user, faces these problems on a daily basis too?
* iPod Screen scratches
* Click wheel scratches
* Mirrored back scratches
* Messy iPod earphone cables
* iPod overheating when being charged while in a silicone or leather case
Despite the technical and cosmetic superiority of the Apple iPod, there remain some teething issues. Weak batteries is one. Being easily scratched is another. These problems immediately lower the resale or trade-in value of the iPod, if any? This may not seem important but if you are trading in your older iPod for a new one, this does matter. It also sucks to see scratches and marks on the beautiful iPod. In fact, microscopic scratches takes place everytime you take the iPod in and out of pocket! Are you thinking of buying an Apple iPod? Get a good-quality iPod case before ANYTHING ELSE!
There are numerous iPod accessories out there. Many accessories are fanciful, some are good but most do not fulfil the basic need of the iPod. You need to protect the iPod from getting scratches and accidental marks before anything else.
Before the iPod can serve you well, it must be able to take care of itself. So, before you even look further into getting your first iPod accessory or even if you have gotten numerous other accessories, make sure you first equip your iPod with either a good quality case or sleeve.
The most common iPod cases in use are:
Handphone sleeves converted to iPod sleeves
This is the most common as handphone sleeves are cheap and easily available. However, the mirrored back of the 3G and 4G ipod are easily scratched by theses sleeves as they run against the iPod. It is not recommended unless you have a budget problem.
iPod screen and wheel sticky protectors
There are transparent iPod screen and wheel sticky protector that are cut of the right size and stucked directly onto the iPod screen and wheel. However, there are various models in the market and some of the cheaper ones tend to curl and peel off after some use. If you are on a budget, a good quality screen and wheel protector is the minimum you should have.
iPod silicone skin
This is the most common iPod case around. It looks like a good casing choice but it is in fact one of the worst, especially if you have bought a cheap one.
These cheap silicone cases are being mass-produced in China with doubtful materials and design elements. Many of the cheap silicone skins in the market tear easily and pick up lint and dirt easily. They are also difficult to wash and maintain. I will not advise a silicone case unless they are made by some of the better and branded products from USA or Japan. A good model is found at: http://www.smart-ipod-ideas.com
iPod Leather case
The iPod leather case is one of the most popular case. However, do not get the Apple branded one if possible as it tears to scratched the mirror back and it does not have a covering flap. Get one of the leather cases from the many in the market. Check the stitching on the leather case before buying one as some of the mass-manufactured ones may have poor workmanship.
Water and shock resistant cases
There is an increasing demand for such cases as more and more people bring their iPod for hiking, cycling, trekking, fishing and beach trips. There are various good brands in the market. However, note that whatever the advertisement may say, at best, the case can only be water resistant and not water proof which is two different things all together. A water resistant case can only take splashes and short immersion in water and certainly not something you can bring for swimming or diving trips!
