Apple to sell podcasts via iTunes?
Although Apple currently offers a full podcast directory, all of the listed content--from both individuals and growing number of companies--is available for free; however, that may change soon. According to a Macworld UK report, Apple will begin offering fee-based podcasts through iTunes in early 2006.
The report draws from a press release from new company--called What I Want Podcasting--that promises to offer podcasts for sale through iTunes "in the very near future." The company says it will offer live performance footage from the Air Jamaica Jazz and Blues festival which takes place in late January 2006.
"We have developed exclusive video invitations from artists appearing at the festival and created a promotional podcast concert series. We then distributed it throughout the Web, on iTunes, podcast directories, Google Video, and many more websites." says Martin Elmore, president of What I Want Podcasting.
"In the very near future, we are going to offer podcasts for sale on iTunes, which will feature clips of the concert this January 26-28."

Apple's iPod for Mercedes-Benz
Operating the intelligent iPod Interface Kit is just as easy as navigating through the iPod's menus and selects items such as "Playlist", "Artist", or "Album" using the buttons on the multifunction steering wheel. The volume is controlled in the same way while the central display on the dashboard indicates the song title or whichever menu item has been selected and provides details about the files saved on the MP3 player. The driver keeps his or her hands on the steering wheel and does not need to look away from the traffic situation ahead. It helps ensure that the driver's attention is not diverted from the road.
Another advantage of the iPod Interface Kit is that the vehicle and the MP3 player are linked up "plug and play"-style. The user has only to is connect the iPod to the specially provided interface in the glove compartment. Configuration is automatic.
The Mercedes-Benz system is compatible with the iPod from Generation 3, the iPod mini, the iPod photo and the iPod U2. The mobile MP3 players can store and play up to 10,000 songs.
Mercedes-Benz sales partners in Germany offers the iPod Interface Kit at a price of € 183 plus installation costs.
Mercedes-Benz also offers free "Mixed Tape" music downloads on the internet as an additional service for MP3 owners. Every eight weeks, 15 specially selected songs are made available as a compilation at www.mercedes-benz.com/mixedtape. The songs can be accessed using data streaming or downloaded in the usual download way, and they can be burned onto a CD-ROM free of charge or transferred to an MP3 player - either individually or as a complete album.
Up-and-coming musicians submit their songs online and are rated by Mercedes' music panel. Every artist or band whose song makes the final cut is profiled online in an illustrated feature. The result is "Mixed Tape" music. The download service also offers additional functions such as a cover or title generator, an e-mail newsletter with details of each compilation and an eCard facility.

Apple iPod Special U2 Edition
The U2 iPod is so much more than eye candy, though. Twenty gigabytes of storage may seem meager compared to the storage capacity of the newer models but believe me, it still translates to a lot of songs. I have had the iPod for a little over a year now and I still haven’t filled it up.
The U2 iPod has similar features as that of other iPods of its generation. It is so easy to use - all you need in order to do whatever you want with your songs is your thumb. Superior sound quality lets you enjoy all your favorite songs.
One drawback is the battery life. It is supposed to be able to play songs continuously for 12 hours. In my experience, it could be anywhere from 4-9 hours. Factors such as file size and playback options may be the reason for this. The lock button on the top of the iPod can help conserve battery. When not in use, you can lock it so that you won’t accidentally run the battery down. Another concern is that the iPod gets scratched easily. Solution: get a case for protection.
Indeed, compared to the other models with their newer features, the U2 iPod is a bit expensive. If you think about it though, it has everything you need in an mp3 player – unless it’s video you’re after. I suppose the bottom line is whether you are enough of a U2 fan to splurge on it. Then again, even if you are not and you have enough cash to spend, the stand out look of the U2 iPod should be enough reason to get it for yourself.

Apple iPod 4th Generation
The iPod, which has been around for over a year now, is perhaps the worlds most popular, and best-selling portable digital music device. Its greatest selling points, of course, are its mobile capacity and ease of use. Fully digital, and capable of storing 20GB of songs, the iPod is basically the forerunner of this type of device. The batteries that power the iPod currently have a lifespan of 12 hours, enough for one full day of music. The device can, of course, play MP3s, but it can also play AAC and Apple Lossless.
One of the most popular features of the iPod is the shuffle feature. Using the iPod Click Wheel it is possible to shuffle and play songs randomly from a song list of your choosing or your complete music database. The mix of different types of songs coming at you randomly can be quite refreshing. Another great feature is the ability to easily download digital songs from the Internet. With the iTunes online music store you can find a huge database of songs to choose from and purchase if you desire. The songs on sale are arranged by genre such as Rock, Country, Jazz, Reggae, Pop, Electronica, Hip Hop, and many more. iTunes can be utilized using both Mac and Windows PCs.
In addition to downloading songs from the internet, iTunes allows you to import songs from your CDs to your iPod. You can transfer the songs in MP3 or AAA format and at the quality level you desire.
There are also some special features found on the latest iPod. There is now an alarm on your iPod so that you may wake up to your favorite music. There is also a calendar and to-do lists, as well as simple games such as Music Quiz, Solitaire, Brick and Parachute. Also, the new iPod has a notes reader that enables you to read text-based documents that you have downloaded. In these ways, the new iPod increasingly resembles a typical PDA, as well as a digital music device.
The iPod currently sells for approximately $200 - $350. The earlier iPod with 15GB of space sells for around $220, while the newest version with 20GB of space usually sells for about $390.

A Look At iPod Accessories
In addition to technological iPod accessories, there are also a number of protective carrying cases designed to tote the iPod safely. While maintaining their equipment’s safety, iPod users are also making a fashion statement with their trendy carrying cases.
Industry experts are amazed at just how far iPod accessories have come. For instance, an iPod control is now available on selected jacket sleeves or backpack straps made available by an apparel company specializing in the snowboarding industry. The theory behind this placement is that it will allow individuals with additional convenience for operating their iPod outdoors and on the go. Now that’s iPod accessories at their best.
There are more common iPod accessories, including a headphone connector that allows for private listening of your favorite tunes. An iPod Hi-Fi speaker is also available for use in an electrical outlet or by battery operation.
With radio being a popular pastime for automobile operators, iPod accessories quickly made their way into car integration. BMW was the first to release an iPod interface, which allowed operators to control their iPod through built-in steering wheel controls. By January 2005, Volo, Nissan, Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari would offer similar systems. Later that year, Acura, Honda, Volkswagen and Audi confirmed their plans to integrate iPod accessories into their car stereos as well.
With it’s ability to customize music playback, the iPod is growing with each passing day. As it’s popularity increases, additional iPod accessories will be manufactured to make the convenience of customized music-on-the-go even better. With auto manufacturers jumping on board with their plans to incorporate iPod accessories into their newest creations, it’s clear to automakers and to the world that iPod is here to stay. And, where there is an iPod, there are iPod accessories not far behind.

iPod leather cases are also extremely popular. Unfortunately people have reported that the Apple branded one scratches the mirror back and does not have a cover flap. There are many quality leather case suppliers on the web. Check the stitching on the case for good workmanship. Belkin and Digital Lifestyle are a few that come to mind.
Water and Shock Resistant Cases.
There is an increasing need for these types of cases due to our active and mobile lifestyles. There are a plethora of cases in this market also but be forewarned that a case can only be water resistant not water proof. Water resistant means it can withstand water splashes certainly not to be immersed in water and definitely you would not bring diving! Organizing Your Music - The MP3 / iPod Revolution

The days of CD racks are going away. They are being replaced by iPods and other mp3 players that can put entire music libraries in the palm of your hand. Take it wherever you like, listen to your library in the car, at the gym, at home and at work. And by jumping into the world of digital music files you free up all that space now designated for CDs. The process is simple. There are many software packages and devices available to make the change a painless one. I recommend iTunes software (it's free) and an iPod (not so free, but worth it).
Prices for an iPod range from $99 for the shuffle which holds a half gig to $399 for the whopping 60 gig storage with video capabilities. A rough guide is that each gig holds about 250 songs or 25 albums. But don't worry about getting an iPod that can hold your entire library, your computer can do that for you, and you can easily rotate the music contents of your music player at will. Getting your music into your computer is made simple by iTunes. Once the software is installed all you have to do is put your CDs into the computer and push a button. Really! It is that easy. The software will do the rest. It will go online and download the CD information such as song names and album names, and it will copy the songs onto your hard drive.
Once all of your music CDs are copied onto your computer pack them up and put them in storage. You can now use the shelves that used to be for CDs for something else a little more stylish and listening to your music will be a lot easier. No more shuffling through CDs to find the right album. Now it is all in the palm of your hand and in your computer. Many of these devices also make it easy to play your music through your existing stereo. Apple even has a wireless option that will beam your music to your stereo without the use of messy cables. I prefer to use an adapter that plugs my iPod mini (very stylish) directly into the stereo. That way I have my music in whatever room or office I am working in.
I hope this helps you to free up a little space in your home or office and makes your favorite music more accessible.
