How To Turn Your iPod Into TV

The Apple iPod is synonymous with mobile audio and music, and with the launching of the video-capable iPod, music lovers not only will enjoy the audio but also video.

Herein lies the problem - the apple iPod screen is only 2.5 inches, and there is no doubt that viewing pleasure can be increased when we can have a bigger video screen.

How then can the iPod have a bigger viewing screen - so as to be considered a mobile TV as well?

To convert your iPod into a Mobile TV, all you need to do is to get a MicroOptical Goggles.

You can wear this goggle over your regular spectacles or eyeglasses, and where you do not feel comfortable, you can do so over your contact lenses.

The goggles is fairly light at 70 g, with a belt clip that holds the iPod and the battery pack of 3 AAA-batteries. A cable connects to the iPod headphone port.

These goggles will deliver the image from two tiny LCDs through a series of lenses directly to the eyes so that you can watch video on what looks like a 27 inch screen TV!

Now, if you are always on the go and travelling, and you need to research or study or to get information from video clips, you can now enjoy 27" equivalency viewing with the apple iPod.

The only drawback is the cost of the MicroOptical Corp Goggles, which, however is expected to drop with demand. Without the goggles, you have to tolerate the viewing from the 2.5 inch screen from the iPod, or dish out around $269 for the Goggles and start to enjoy Mobile TV using the iPod.

With the development of technology, soon the battery pack consisting of the 3-AAA size batteries will disappear, making it more light weight!

Indeed, there is nothing to hold back the iPod from developing into the music player and mobile TV player if you can afford the cost of the goggles.

iPod 's Unique Advantages

Have you every bought something, like a new car or new kitchen device, and months (or even years later), someone comes by and introduces you to a feature that you never knew existed?

Well, if this has ever happened to you; take heed: you aren’t alone! There are so many features and gadgets and settings on today’s modern devices, that it sometimes feels that you need to take a school course in gadgetology just to ensure that you’re enjoying your item to its fullest capacity.

So, in an effort to ensure that you’re getting the most bang for your buck, let’s take a look at some of the advantages of your iPod (whether you own it now, or are in the market to buy one).

Some of these advantages may seem very straightforward to you, while others might be an eye opener.

Remember, too: you may not use a particular feature or advantage right now, but that doesn’t mean the opportunity won’t arise in the future for you to enjoy something new.

Here are some advantages of the iPod:

--> Size Does Matter!

While you’re obviously aware that your iPod can store your music for you while you’re on the go, you might not be aware of just how much space there is to some of the new 4th generation iPods on the market right now.

Current versions offer 20 gigabyte and 40 gigabyte storage capacities, which is enormous for most audiophiles. Of added convenience, the new iPods also offer a new music menu, and support for multiple playlists.

--> The Shuffle Feature

iPod’s shuffle feature allows you to listen to music you’ve selected yourself, such as listening to a radio station that plays only the music you like. That’s why Apple added the Shuffle Songs” feature – this saves you from having to activate the shuffle in the iPod’s settings menu and then browse through several levels just so you can select songs.

--> Not Just for Music…

The iPod was originally marketed as a device for listening to music; and this made sense, since that wonderful teenage demographic spends more than the other groups put together! Yet as the iPod has matured, so has its target market.

The educational market has now caught on to the advantages offered by the iPod; and this is a driving reason why many people who might not otherwise buy an iPod are finding one in their pocket.

For example, take the case of Duke University in North Carolina. University officials provided 1,650 of the 20 GB iPods to freshmen. These sets of iPods came pre-loaded with campus information, orientation notes, and an academic calendar.

And here’s the most interesting part: the Duke iPods adopted the format of the iTunes store so students can purchase academic materials, course outlines, language lessons, and yes of course: music. We look specifically at iTunes in the fourth section of this book.

In addition, there’s also the thriving audiobook market. We’ve come a long, long way from a binder full of tapes! Now, entire books can be downloaded onto an iPod, and enjoyed on the go.

These audiobooks include everything from young fiction to romance, from business books to self-help, and everything in between.

So if you’re currently using your iPod just for music – or that’s what you plan to do when you buy one – remember that it can indeed be used for so much more.

iPod Music Downloads Now

iPod downloads are a great way to fill your iPod with unlimited music without the steep costs generally associated with buying music at the music store and without having to shell out 99 cents per song. You'll find many sites that can give you unlimited iPod downloads in addition to other downloads as well. iPod download sites differ in terms of how much they offer for the money you spend, the type of customer service and the ease of use. You'll want to take time browsing different sites in order to find the biggest bang for your buck. Once you find the right website for your iPod downloads, your collection of music will grow easily and quickly as you start downloading iPod music.

To get the most of your money, take the time to read reviews on what the different sites have to offer. iPod downloads are fast becoming the best way to get the songs you want quickly, but iPod download sites are not created equal. So many that are on the web have terrible customer service and are very difficult to navigate and get the songs you want, or worse, have a limited choice of songs for you to download. There are really only a handful that really give you great value.

iPod Mini Product Review, It Is Only Small In The Name

The Christmas so many of the most popular iPod Models sold out, with some stores forced thru customer demand and hostility at times; to make waiting lists, when the new stock came in. Why are so many iPod Models sold out? Well, Apple started a new craze, which is without borders and age groups niches. Everyone wants the new iPods and many have their sites on the iPod Mini, yes it is small, but only in size and name.

The iPod Mini comes in four gigabytes and six gigabytes and that is approximately 1000 songs and 1500 songs respectfully. The prices are not too bad, but most places are sold out until mid January to early February and many stores already have waiting lists, which exceed their estimated new stock shipments. The earbud earphones are excellent and make it very pleasurable to take a walk around the block or jog thru the park with ease, no discomfort at all. The backlit screen and customizable menu make it very favorable compared to other versions.

The iPod Mini comes with an 8-hour battery life, which could be longer, especially if you go hiking for the weekend and do not have a place to plug in for a recharge. But all in all there are few complaints from those who own them, most reviews give the iPod Mini very high marks indeed. So you need this in 2006.

iPod Nano, Good Things Do Come In Small Packages

Have you seen the new ultra slim iPod Nano; this little cool gadget is a must have and it is not much bigger than a couple of business cards set end to end. When we all saw the first ads on the Intenet for the Innovative and High Tech iPod Nano on the various high tech gadget website, it was hard to believe, some thought is was not real at all, how could it be, where was the battery, where was the hard drive; how could this little contraption have that many songs? It seems now that most editors and personal tech writers are giving the iPod Nano the first prize for the 2005 greatest and most innovative gadgets.

The iPod Nano comes with two different options; the 2 GB version which holds about 500 songs and the 4 GB, which can hold about 1,000 songs. Of course it is not cheap, but some say it is less expensive than they thought it would be starting at $199.00 and the prices go up from there. How thin is The iPod Nano? Well it is about a thin as a number 2 pencil and as powerful as floor size juke box and then some.

It is three and a half inches by an inch and a half and weighs less than 2 ounces. The LCD screen is cool too, as it is very bright and about one and a half inches. Twelve solid hours of play for its battery life and it does have the new cool click wheel, which users love too, making it extremely easy to use. The iPod Nano has all the same ports and docking connectors like all the other iPods. And you know what? You need this in 2006.

iPod Nano Review

I had seen the adverts on TV on how small the nano was but it wasn’t until I held one in my hands that I fully understood how small and how impressive these MP3 players are.

Weighing only 42grams and a mere 90m by 40m and only 6.9m thick (or thin) these little units are not going to fill your suitcase when you go on holiday. Ideal for putting in your pocket, wallet or purse you can take them anywhere, except the pool of course as they are not waterproof. The small size does create concerns for me with my children though. They can easily get lost if not looked after and outside of the home could be easy prey to pickpockets or thieves so beware.

They come in two colours white and black and two memory sizes 2gb and 4gb, theses can hold 500 and 1000 songs respectively. For me this is more than enough songs but for those of you with large CD collections, who want to put their whole collection in one place, you may want to go for one the larger iPods.

The colour screen looks excellent and shows easy navigation throughout, you can download your tunes into files, albums, types of music etc. My only concern with the screen was, I felt it may scratch easily and some of the cases that you can buy for the nano still leave the screen exposed. My concern is when you put your nano into your pocket or bag and catches something metal. I had heard on the news there had been issues with the early nanos , I still feel this could be an issue.

The main control in the centre of the unit was more touch sensitive than I expected, I use my thumb to scroll the menu, but it wasn’t long before it was easy as pie, if fact working really well with the gel case I had bought to protect it.

The sound is excellent, I can’t tell the difference between CDs and MP3s and I often think those who say they can, can’t either. You can download your music from iTunes, a legal way of owning music. They are impressive boxed also where you open the box like a book and see your nano inside. However you do not get any form of charging your nano except for the computer leads that come with it. This means if you wish to take your nano away from your computer for a period of time you will need to buy a separate mains charger. Which of course is larger than the unit itself.

My final conclusion is that this little unit is a fantastic move forward in the music player industry. I was impressed by the larger iPods that my friends had, but it wasn’t until the appearance of the nano that I was suitably impressed to put my hand in pocket to make a purchase. And I haven’t been let down.

iPod Nano Product Review; Good Things do Come in Small Packages

The ultra slim iPod Nano is not much bigger than a couple of credit cards set end to end and about as wide as a pencil. When the iPod Nano was first shown in a high tech gadget website, no one even believed it was real, how could it be, where was the battery? How could that little thing hold any songs in it? Most thought it was merely another Apple gimmick, not so, the iPod Nano is really and yes it is really cool. Most personal tech writers are giving it the first prize for the 2005 greatest gadget.

The iPod Nano has two configurations; the two gigabyte version which hold 500 songs and the four gigabyte version which holds 1,000 songs. Of course for this level of performance is such a small device, well lets just say you are going to have to pay the price. The down dirty model is $199.00 and the prices go up from there. The iPod Nano is as thin as a pencil and as powerful as juke box.

How small is it? Very small; only three and a half inches by an inch and a half and the width of a number two pencil. And get this it only weighs 1.5 ounces. But don’t lose it, as anything that small is bound to get lost. The LCD custom screen is also about the coolest thing you ever saw, it is very bright and one and a half inches.

The battery life of this thing is over 12 hours and the new Apple Patented click wheel makes it extremely easy to use. The iPod Nano also has all the ports and docking connectors needed to integrate it just like you would any other iPod. Let’s face it you need this to get through 2006.

iPod Hearing Loss Protection for Boomers: Five HearPod Solutions

Since their debut in the marketplace, iPods have revolutionized the way we listen to music. iPod hard drives store up to 300 hours of music, batteries last for 12 hours, and the volume can be cranked up to 120 decibels. That’s louder than a chain saw or pneumatic drill, and equivalent to a jet plane taking off! But iPod fans are being warned to turn their music down. Even manufacturer, Apple, includes a cautionary note with every iPod, warning, "permanent hearing loss may occur if earphones or headphones are used at high volume."

Currently, 16 million baby boomers have hearing loss and the number is expected to surge to 78 million by 2030. Amazingly, nearly three-quarters of them admit that they have never visited a doctor or hearing health specialist to have a hearing test. In spite of this lack of concern, there are more boomers aged 46 to 64 with hearing loss than seniors over the age of 65 with the same condition, and hearing loss among baby boomers is 26 percent more common than in previous generations.

Loud music and noise causes hearing loss by damaging the delicate hair nerve cells in the cochlea, a part of the inner ear that helps transmit sound impulses to the brain. These hair cells often recover from temporary damage. However, permanent damage can occur with prolonged exposure to extremely loud or moderately loud noise. When these nerve hair cells are destroyed, irreversible hearing loss results.

Many people who listen to iPods in noisy environments pump up the volume to dangerous levels to drown out background noise. Busy city hubs and subway noise (around 90 decibels) are already sufficiently loud to cause permanent damage with considerable exposure. Although the damage from chronic exposure to these sound levels is generally slow, it is cumulative. Music lovers who tolerate noise levels above 85 decibels for long periods will end up with irreversible hearing loss.

Here are five steps you can take to protect yourself from hearing loss:

1. Limit the volume of your iPod to 60 decibels (db), about two-thirds of the maximum volume.

2. Try to limit listening to no more than 60 minutes a day.

3. Wear sound-isolating or noise-canceling headphones that fit over the ear, instead of ear buds that are inserted directly in the ear. This is because when using ear buds, you still hear the external noise. You turn up the volume to drown out the noise, boosting the sound signals by as much as six to nine decibels over the noise. You can hear the music from your iPod, but you are unaware of the excessive volume.

4. Take advantage of the free download Apple is now offering for the iPod Nano, and iPod models with video-playback capabilities. The download contains a setting to limit the volume.

5. If you are experiencing tinnitus (ringing in the ears), muffled sound after listening to your iPod, or you are having difficulty hearing conversations, visit to a physician and take a hearing test.

During my first 20 years in hearing health practice, our clientele were mainly seniors around 75 years of age. However, over the past 10 years, I have noticed a huge difference in our clientele. Nowadays, baby boomers of all ages are making appointments, and most of them have noise-induced hearing loss.

Loud rock music and living life 'full on' in an amplified noisy society have contributed to hearing loss amongst baby boomers. Nevertheless, if we follow the iPod 60-60 Protection Plan, we can enjoy our iPods and continue to live life to the fullest.

IPod - Not Working the Way You Need? - Forget About Chucking It

Instead, get the functionality and play-time you want from a mobile device

Have you lost your cool after paying $300 for an Apple iPod MP3 player, only to realize later it is a single function device? The Apple iPod that you purchased plays MP3 files and stores pictures. You wanted it to do more, so did your wife. Droplets of sweat form on your brow when you see the Visa bill. Yes, you paid for this frustration. Thankfully, these pressure-filled situations can be avoided when you switch to a Windows mobile device.

What Windows mobile device?

This article explores how to get the most out of your portable mobile device. Did you know that any Pocket PC running the Windows mobile software suite will let you do much more than just listen to MP3 songs on an Apple iPod? With your Pocket PC you can enjoy Internet satellite radio, Internet radio streaming, TV streaming, pod casting, FM radio, tracking stocks and mutual funds, watching short weather reports and much more.

Satellite radio seamless access

Courtesy of Sirius and XM satellite, two satellite radio content providers, you can listen to commercial free music, popular talk shows, current news and entertainment on your Pocket PC. This is much easier, more convenient and less daunting than downloading 10,000 songs from high tunes on your iPod. Not to mention the cost factor involved with high tunes. If you have a limited music selection, you would have to pay a dollar for each MP3 file/song and I tunes. 10,000 MP3 songs would cost you $10,000. If spending $10,000 is not an issue for you, what about the time involved? Do you have the extra time to spare sitting in front of your Apple computer to drag and drop 10,000 MP3 files onto your iPod?

For only $12.95 a month you can access unlimited music from 130 channels from Xm and Sirius radio. You don't have to download anything other than a software program called pocket XM radio pro from e-book software. To get the Pocket PC version, you can go to pocket gear.com. The smart phone version is at www.smartphone.net. The pocket XM radio pro is a software application that will allow you to listen to radio shows and music from Sirius and XM satellite. I found the smart phone offered outstanding reception on a WiFi network as opposed to a cell phone network.

After installing the pocket XM radio pro on your Pocket PC, you'll be pleased with the reception on Sirius and XM satellite radio. What I love about listening to satellite radio music stations is that it is commercial free.

There is a free software application to enjoy satellite radio in a Pocket PC at www.emulamer.com. Please look for the CAB file and download that file to your Pocket PC. Don't think that if it's free, it must be poor quality. It’s quite the contrary. I found that there are no buffering delays at all. Your account with XM and Sirius lets you listen to satellite radio on your desktop computer. Unlike buying a satellite radio receiver from Xm and Sirius; with your Pocket PC or smart phone you will need to have an online live Internet connection.

High-Speed Internet Radio Streaming

Are you an avid book reader? If the answer is yes, you can listen to audio books on your Apple iPod. At audible.com, you can access the free software enabling you to transfer these audio books, magazines, and newspapers options to your media player mobile.

Here are some high-quality live radios streaming web sites that I found on the Internet for my Pocket PC:

· Resco pocket radio at www.resco.net. This program will support: wav, MP3, speex, OGG Vorbis and raf formats. From the $19.95, you can get an audio recorder to record yourself singing and talking.

· Pocket player at www.conduits.com. In order to listen to live stream radio broadcast from a great web site like shoutcast.com you will have to buy the pocket player for $19.95. The pocket PC supports the following formats: MP3, wma, flac and wav files. Pocket player also supports: skinnable screens, audio books, bookmarks, play lists, screen plug-ins, Blue tooth remote control and head phones.

Browse Music from Your WiFi Enabled Pocket PC

It's unrealistic to think that you will have access to the Internet 24 x 7. What if you are sitting outside in an outdoor garden cafĂ© with no WiFi access? But you still won't listen to music on your Pocket PC. In order for this to work, you will need a WiFi enabled Pocket PC to connect to a WiFi enabled desktop PC. You'll need to visit this web site: www.rudeo.com. The rudeo play & control program is $19.95. The nice thing about downloading music right onto Pocket PC is that your songs stay on your Pocket PC. If you have a good battery life, you can listen to your songs on your Pocket PC without having to be connected to the Internet. First, you’ll need to go to www.wmcplayer.com and download Microsoft windows media connect. This will enable you to connect to a Wifi enabled pocket PC to your Wifi enabled desktop PC.

iPod - A Changing World

I like talking about new inventions and what to do to our lives. Today I would like to focus on the iPod from Apple.

First there was the cassette Walkman, then the cd Walkman, mini disk and now the iPod. The iPod is a music player just like the Walkman, but instead of cassettes it uses a hard disk to store music in digital format.

Now the great improvement of the iPod over its predecessors is its storage capacity. An iPod today can store enough music to play non-stop 24 hours a day during 6 weeks.

Now what's does that mean? That basically means that you can have your entire music collection on it. There is even storage for music addicts like myself (and I like a LOT of genres like classical, jazz, heavy metal, drum & bass, breakbeat, flamenco, Turkish & Arabic, Indian traditional music, etc, etc). That in turn basically means that you can have your music collection on you where ever you go, at a party, in your car, at work etc etc …

Now with the iPod Video models you basically your iPod acts as a portable video player as well. This means that you can stick a few movies on your iPod before you go on a trip, connect your iPod to the Hotel's TV set using the AV cables and watch a video with your lady.

The list of accessories is ever growing and there are some real useful gadgets available nowadays. Personally I can now listen to my iPod at home on the stereo, wireless (using iTrip). I have remote controls (both Airclick and apple remote), I always have it in the car (using Roadtrip), I use it as a portable hard disk, I use it to store my photographs when I am doing a shoot and have no laptop on me (using Media Reader), I record new idea’s on the guitar so I don’t forget them (iTalk) and so on!

I find it normal now that I can have this multifunction device on me wherever I go. Two years ago I could not unload my big RAW photographs onto a small handheld device that also stores my entire music collection and connects to my computer, TV, home and car stereo.

What I am trying to say is that inventions like the iPod seem like nice gadgets but in fact they are changing your lives! In a positive way imho.

I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!

iPod Domination

iPod Is Dominating the Market, and There Is More to Come

iPod contributes 12-14% of total company revenues, a number industry experts believe will continue to increase. With this increase comes pressure on gross margins, as the blended iPod gross margin of 20% compares unfavorably with Apple’s corporate average of 27-28%. The iPod helped augment Apple’s growth by expanding its addressable market from the core computer market, which continues to grow, but at slower rates. To increase penetration of the rapidly growing MP3 player market, Apple launched the iPod Mini internationally in July 2004, and HP’s iPod launch is scheduled for later in summer.

Apple’s entry into the digital music player market (MP3 market) with its popular iPod expanded the company’s addressable market and signaled a turn in Apple’s strategy. The iPod is a cultural phenomenon that is capitalizing on the convergence of digital consumer electronics and the computer, and Apple’s position as an early mover enabled it to achieve the number-one position in the marketplace. iPod adoption continues to accelerate, with little indication of a slowdown. It took Apple approximately 18 months to sell its first million iPods, but its second million came in six months and its third million came in four. In fact, it appears that only its suppliers can slow it down, in particular the hard-drive vendors, which are having a difficult time meeting demand. Industry experts believe that iPod’s growth will remain strong in the foreseeable future and do not expect any significant customer fallout stemming from Apple’s inability to meet demand.

An analysis of the launch of the Sony Walkman in 1979 indicates the market opportunity for a revolutionary portable music player will remain strong for several years to come and Apple is expected to maintain a strong share for the next few years (unlike Sony’s experience with the Walkman).

While iPod and iTunes generate significant awareness of the Apple product, they have done little to grow Apple’s core Mac business. Experts attribute this mainly to Apple’s aboveaverage pricing, along with continued ignorance on the part of consumers regarding the compatibility of Windows and Mac. With regard to pricing, the average consumer desktop PC retails for $1,019, which is $280 below Apple’s low-end price point on Apple’s now, discontinued flat-panel iMac. Furthermore, the industry ASP is falling as most of the growth in the market is taking place in the sub-$1,000 market.

With regard to the compatibility of Windows and Mac OS X, even though Apple made a concerted effort to educate consumers about the ease with which these two products work together, it has fallen on deaf ears for the most part. Apple made some progress through its retail stores, where it estimates half of Mac purchases are from first-time buyers, but for Apple’s stock to work over the long term, the company needs to maintain share against Windows, at a minimum. Understandably, Apple wants to avoid selling PCs at a loss, but unfortunately the growth prospects for $1,000-plus PCs are limited. This presents a conundrum for Apple longer term, but for now it maintains its current strategy. Incidentally, Apple’s revenue share has held much better, and while this is not an often-discussed topic, revenue share is probably more important than unit share. www.ipodreviewforum.com

Ipod Earphones vs. Noise Cancelling Headphones

The iPod has really taken the lead in portable music technology with their funky new designs and ability to download 4 to 60GB’s of songs in a single hit. However in my praise of Apple’s technology there is one serious fault with the iPod, this being the trademark white earphones. These flimsy headphones are an insult to the iPod technology and prevent the user from benefiting from their full listening experience. In fact in light of new noise cancelling headphone technology, the old school earphones are worthy of a place in the trash!

With the new technology of noise cancelling headphones on the rise, music goers will finally have the adequate equipment to enhance their listening experience. In the general public iPod’s are used frequently weather it be in airplanes, on public transport or walking from place to place. Nevertheless with its frequent use comes the distraction of outside noise and with that comes the excessive noise levels of the user trying to drown out the background noise instead of cancelling the noise. All these factors play on our ears and can cause long-term effects. Yet there is hope, noise cancelling headphones cancels out the background noise of everyday events and puts you on a one on one term with you and your music.

The next big move in ipod accessories will without doubt be noise cancelling headphones for this reason; an individual would not consider connecting low grade speakers to a high quality sound systems so why do it with head phones? Already other labels have begun a market change and have added the new noise cancelling feature to their headphone line. Taking off without a hitch, noise cancelling headphones are set to be not just the must have accessory but also a new fixation dealing with sound technology.
