PSP Versus iPod Video

So many people have asked me what do I like the best, the new Play Station Portable or the video iPod. This is a tough question as they are both awesome products. They both have pluses and minuses about them but having both of them is the best way to go if you can afford it. However, if you are unable to have both products then I highly recommend that you read this article and decide for yourself which is really the best.

I bought my video iPod back in November of 2006. I wasn’t quite sure even what this gadget was must less what all it did. Once I got home and plugged it in I soon found out that I was instantly addicted to it. I could have hundreds of CDs and many movies available at my fingertips and all I had to carry around was this little bitty portable device. Then I realized that I had bought the 30gb iPod (yes I really had no idea what I was buying at the time). I have so much space on it that I currently have about 20 movies and literally hundreds of songs all at the push of a simple little button. There are even little games on the video iPods like solitaire and brick that come with the iPod. For a small little fee you are also able to purchase other games for the iPod like Diamond Mind and Zuma from the all too popular iTunes.com.

So, the games on the video iPods are limited. This is the major drawback the video iPod. If more games were made available for the iPod it would be the ultimate entertainment package all in one.

This is where the all too popular Play Station Portable comes in. With its great graphics and wide screen the Play Station Portable is the ultimate portable gaming system. That’s about all that I can say for it. Mine just sits around here and collects dust most of the time. Why? Well, in my personal opinion, unless you are addicted to playing Play Station games to begin with, it was a waste of money for me and probably will be for you as well.

So, you can browse the internet. Yea, at speeds of less than dial-up, oh and nine times out of ten half of the pages won’t load either. It’s certainly not something that you can use for intense internet web browsing. Oh, and I would never recommend trying to check your email on a PSP and forget about trying to load myspace.com on it - it’s not going to happen. If it does happen it’s taken so long for you to get there that you have forgotten what you were there to begin with for.

Finally, there is the ultimate drawback to owning the PSP. SPACE! It’s bad enough that it doesn’t come with any internal memory for you to save on to, but then you are hit up to buy memory cards which only come in 1gb or 2gb. This is certainly NOT enough memory to put movies and music on it. You may be able to have one movie on it and a few songs at a time. However, adding 20 movies and hundreds of songs to the PSP just is not going to happen.

In conclusion what do I think about these two products when put side to side? Well, the PSP is certainly the best if all you want to do is play games. However, don’t even think about getting the PSP without a memory card because you won’t be able to save any of your games. Oh, and be prepared to carry around all of the little games that you want to play as they aren’t stored on the game system.

The Apple video iPod certainly wins my vote for the best product! I will never have to carry a movie or a CD around again. If you want to be able to watch movies on-the-go, listen to hundreds or even thousands of songs on-the-go, have a few games right at your fingertips, download podcasts or video podcasts, view pictures, watch your favorite TV shows, or even just keep track of your contact list then the video iPod is just what you’re looking for.
