Goodbye Wristwatch. Hello iPods.

Most people nowadays do own one piece or more of an electronic and portable gadget like the iPod or a mobile phone. However, the thing is, with the onslaught of such gadgets and devices in the market place, other things are set aside. Like wristwatches for example.

Some people still do use their wristwatches. However, not all of them are using the piece of jewelry to actually tell time. They are using it to serve as a fashion statement more than anything else. It would even be quite amusing if you would be looking at a wristwatch of another person only to find out that it is not working at all. It was plain used just to show off that they do own a wristwatch that looks quite on the expensive side.

Most people have found ways of telling the time through the electronic and portable gadgets that are readily available in the market. For example, all you need to do is browse your way around using the iPod click wheel and other iPod click wheel accessories and you are off to learning what time of the day it already is. And while at it, one person can also go ahead and listen to the music that has been stored in the gadget itself.

So what has happened to the plain old way of telling the time? It looks like wristwatches may be gone for good if people do continue to rely on those mobile phones or iPods to tell them the time. However, a study was done by some researchers in the market and they did find out that wristwatches may not be the “in” thing right now but other types of accessories are quite getting popular. In fact, most people did divulge that they would rather spend their cash on fashion accessories like shoes or handbags and the like rather than spend it on pieces of jewelry like the watch.

It looks like the trend has changed from using the wristwatch for function to actually using such a piece of jewelry for purpose. Last year, 2006, a study was conducted and it was discovered that Americans spent $5.9 billion on wristwatches alone. However, such an amount may still be huge but the numbers are 17 percent lower compared to the sales some years back.

Because of this, what wristwatch makers are doing are they are revolutionizing what these pieces of jewelry offer the market. They have been redesigned so much so that it does not only tell time but it could also function as a GPS tracker or even a heart monitor.
