Interestingly, the creators of the much acclaimed TiVo, a video recording service that allows people to record their favorite shows “all while you’re out living life,” has plans to expand its service even further. In recent reports, TiVo is trying to expand its market into the iPod and Sony Playstation Portable markets.
TiVo plans on expanding by implementing new technology which will allow the recorded TiVo video programs to be transferred over to the aforementioned devices. What this could allow for is a drastic expansion in the media being offered by Apple’s amazing little iPod device. Essentially, people everywhere with a TiVo would now be able to put all of their favorite television shows right on to their handheld iPod’s and watch them anywhere, anytime.
While, indeed, there have been a few reported cases where technology wizzes have been able to tweak their iPod’s and video applications to transfer them over, this is a lengthy, hair-raising process that involves many complicated format conversions. The new TiVo technology would make the process very easy so that anybody would have the chance to keep their TV programs right at their hip, literally.
This new technology is just one of the many ways Apple, with the help of some other companies, is continuing to expand and improve upon its iPod. Pretty soon the iPod might be the only thing we’ll ever need to own…who knows.
